🌄 Stirling Range National Park 🥾

Calling all ...are you looking for a must-do this Winter? 😍

Standing proudly in the Stirling Range National Park more than a kilometre above sea level, Bluff Knoll or Bular Mial is practically a pilgrimage for visiting the region. 🌅

At 2500 – 2900 million years old the bedrock of the Stirling Range is composed of metamorphosed sandstones and shales, believed to have originated from an ancient sea. 🌊

With spectacular summit views across the Great Southern, it is also a biodiversity hotspot, with the lower slopes blanketed in Eucalypt, Banksia and grass trees, and more than 1000 flowering plants thriving throughout the park. 🌸🌷🦜

Come winter you might even be lucky enough to find a dusting of snow atop this behemoth if you summit in the early morning. Be sure to rug up though, the freezing conditions and winds ensure the trek is not for the faint hearted or underprepared. ❄️💨

**EDIT: Thankyou to everyone for sharing this post - I did not expect it to have the reach it has and it’s very heartwarming to know there are so many people wanting to help where they can. It has also highlighted the extent of the current crisis in the industry. If you could please message me on my phone number that I have provided so that I can keep track of genuine requests and offers for lease, agistment, feed etc to facilitate putting people in direct contact with each other that would be greatly appreciated.. 😌🙏” **

My phone has been ringing with calls from farmers who are in a desperate situation where they have found themselves overstocked - unable to move sheep with the appalling state of the sheep market despite trying all avenues and now with the extended dry season they are running out of feed, water and in some cases funds.

Please no judgement on these situations but I’m hoping that I can maybe help facilitate some short term leases, agistment etc to help.

I’m not doing this for any financial gain and want nothing out of it - I just purely want to assist in some way as I’m feeling quite helpless with the calls I have coming in. I have had farmers in tears this week preparing to shoot sheep because they are fast running out of options.

Please feel free to contact me and I am happy to try and facilitate between those needing somewhere for sheep to go and those that have spare paddocks.

Did you know that Albany is home to the Anzac Dawn service?

Padre White's contribution of Anzac day marks the birth of the First Dawn Service, a tradition inherently linked to Albany.

The origin of the traditional 'stand-to" is in remembrance of the troops who were woken at the first rays of light. They were in position and alert, in case of an enemy attack in the eerie half-light.

Dawn is the time that the ANZAC's approached the Gallipoli beach.

After the service Padre White and some members of the congregation climbed to the summit of Mount Clarence as it was from this viewpoint that the people of Albany had gathered in 1914 to look at the great convoy of ships in the Sound.

Hiking through the enchanting trail of Bluff Knoll in Stirling Range National Park, where every step is a journey into nature’s masterpiece 🌿🏞️

Hiking up a steep track with numerous steps to negotiate but the reward of breath taking views makes it worth it 🏔️

Bluff Knoll is a Grade 4, 6.8km return trail, which at its peak is 1,098 meters above sea level!
