Alum Cliffs 60 Great Short Walk

This delightful walk near the town of Mole Creek, holds a surprise. After a short climb, the track winds through forest before suddenly reaching a set of cliffs 200m above the Mersey River. There are stunning views from the lookout, as the Mersey River rushes through a narrow, cliff-lined gorge.

Tulampanga, the Aboriginal name for Alum Cliffs, remains a place of particular significance to Aborigines because of the ochre found nearby. Along the walk there are sculptures and pieces of outdoor furniture, some created by local Aboriginal artists.

The Alum Cliffs are located within the Alum Cliffs State Reserve and form a part of the Gog Range.

Arguably the most impressive of the blue Pulmonarias: ‘Blue Ensign’. Forms a carpet of near-Gentian blue flowers in our woodland as spring approaches. It’s now available from our online store, along with a bunch of other new plants. 👍

New measures to meet COVID-19 safety requirements

UPDATED 10 JUNE 2020

Please note, day walks and remote walking and camping are not affected by the booking requirements.

_______________________________________________________________

PWS has introduced registration and booking systems for popular overnight walks, campgrounds, and attractions to ensure the community is safe following COVID-19 closures.

Pre-registration and bookings are required for the following sites, so numbers can be capped based on available camping platforms and on current health advice to ensure physical distancing and COVID-19 safe practices are met. This is subject to review as advice is updated.

Free registration: Overland Track winter walkers (15 June – 30 September 20); Frenchmans Cap (Vera and Tahune hut sites); Pine Valley Hut site, New Pelion via Arm River; and Walls of Jeruselum.

Paid bookings: Three Capes Track walkers; Hastings Caves tours; and Mole Creek Caves tours.

Details are available at: www.parks.tas.gov.au/be-involved/news-and-events/new-registration-and-booking-system
