Featured Fishing Location: Tuross Lake 🎣

Tuross Head is a seaside village on the south coast of New South Wales, halfway between the townships of Moruya and Narooma, a few KMs off the Princes Highway, and about 2.5 hours’ drive from Canberra and four hours’ drive from Sydney.

Situated on the towns southern edges is Tuross Lake, one of the thirty Recreational Fishing Havens along the NSW coastline. Tuross is renowned for some great fishing, whether just a casual day on the water with the family or a serious outing looking for one of those enormous dusky flathead it is renowned for producing.

The lake, part of the Batemans Marine Park, is best known by fishers for its diversity in fish habitats. These habitats range from flats and snags to oyster leases and deep holes and all host a wide range of popular estuary fish to catch.

As well as impressive dusky flathead there are many other species such as bream, trevally, whiting, Australian salmon, tailor, mulloway, mullet, luderick, estuary perch and in the brackish to freshwater sections of the Tuross River, Australian bass.

With many accommodation options from camping, caravans, cabins and holiday houses, ample foreshore access, several boat ramps, including the Lavender Bay ramp with recently upgraded pontoon making launching with the family much easier. Once on the water you can get a meal and a coffee from the boatshed café to have an enjoyable day on the water.

Grab the gear, boat, kayak or whatever you use, a mate or the family and check out Tuross Lake today, you will not be disappointed.

Be sure to check the link in the comments for a handy ‘Go Fishing’ guide to the area, simply just download the PDF to your smartphone, android or tablet.

Note: The dusky flathead pictured was released, new rules requiring dusky flathead over 70cm to be released came into effect on 1 August 2022.
