Mt Gambier is a city about 450 kilometres south-east of Adelaide with a population of over 28,900.

It has the second largest population in South Australia. HISTORY
The Buandig people once lived in Mt Gambier before the Europeans arrived at the area. They called the city “egree belum” which means “home of the eagle hawk.”
The first post office opened in 1846 and a man called John Byng built the Mt Gambier Hotel in 1847. It was in 1849 when Dr Edward Wehl arrived at the area to begin a flour-milling operation.

Mount Gambier is a city in the southeastern corner of South Australia. It’s known for its limestone, volcanic landscape and crater lakes. One of these, Blue Lake, turns cobalt blue in summer. Nearby, the Centenary Tower offers panoramic views of the area. The Umpherston Sinkhole contains a lush sunken garden. The Lady Nelson Visitor Centre houses a full-size replica of a late-18th-century ship.
