Innsbruck

Tyrol in the western state of Austria is the capital Innsbruck. It is a city in the Alps that's has been a destination for winter sports, but when we visited, the sun was shining & spring had definitely sprung. Innsbruck is also known for its blend of a as Imperial and modern architecture. Although we didn’t have time to go on it, the funicular, climbs up to 2,256m from the city center for skiing in winter and hiking or mountaineering in warmer months.
This is a beautiful place & felt like someone had gone out & painted a picture of the mountains to be in your face…. They felt almost close enough to touch.
One place I definitely want to go back to.

Regensburg - Last destination for the Viking River Cruise.

Regensburg is a Bavarian city southeast Germany on the Danube River. It has a very rich history and is known for its links to medieval times.
The Stone Bridge was constructed in the 12th century and is 310m long & has 16 arches that crosses the river to the old town. The Regensburger Domspatzen choir is based at the 13th-century Regensburg Cathedral. This is a twin-spired Gothic landmark.

Passau

Passau, is a German town near the Austrian border. It is known as the Three Rivers City, as the Danube, Inn & Liz rivers meet in Passau. Perched above the city is the Veste Oberhaus, a 13th-century hilltop fortress. There is a museum and observation tower there worth a look at. The town is known for its baroque architecture, including St. Stephen's Cathedral, that has an organ with 17,974 pipes.
In the photos, the initial on the limestone bricks are a representation of who the stone mason was.

Göttweig Abbey is a Benedictine monastery near Krems in the Wachau Valley in lower Austria. It was founded in 1083 by Altmann Bishop of Passau.
In 1718 faced a fire, seen a couple of world wars & the plague.
It is a beautiful building, the ceiling is very impressive & the decor of church is next level.

So mystic & soulful, Oh Vienna! (Thanks Ultra Vox🎵 🤭)
OMG, Vienna is a beautiful city. We did a walking tour of the city centre. Again the history & buildings are amazing, but the highlight was going to watch the horses at the Spanish Riding School. (Since I was a wee girl & like so many others, I dreamt of riding at the Spanish Riding School - problem all those years ago, you kinda needed to be a bloke.🥲)
After the training performance, we were privileged to have a private tour of the stallion stable. What a treat, stables are old (460 yrs old!!)
Horses were beautiful & the workings of the establishment was amazing.

Budapest- Hungary 🇭🇺

Budapest, Hungary’s capital, is divided by the River Danube. Its 19th-century Chain Bridge connects the hilly Buda district with flat Pest. A funicular runs up Castle Hill to Buda’s Old Town, where the Budapest History Museum traces city life from Roman times onward. Trinity Square is home to 13th-century Matthias Church.
It was interesting arriving here on ANZAC Day (felt very patriotic today), to then learn about the history & the occupation of this country. We went to the Terra Haza Museum, translated - The House of Terror. It contains exhibits related to the fascist and communist regimes in 20th-century Hungary and is also a memorial to the victims of these regimes, including those detained, interrogated, tortured, or killed in the building. This was very confronting. What this country & its citizens have been through is so sad. I will most definitely be back to Budapest. It is clean, full of beautiful building & the people are friendly & so helpful.

Prague, the Czech Republic capital city. The Vltava River runs through the city. Prague is known as “the City of a Hundred Spires,” it's known for its historical Old Town Square, it has really cool and colorful baroque buildings.
Charles Bridge is lined with statues of Catholic saints. It was finished in 1402.
Glad I visited, the history & buildings are very impressive.
Found an awesome pub, right across the road from the hotel.😊

Fare thee well Wurzburg - lookout Prague we are on the way!😝
Had a lovely stay at the AC by Marriott & got shown around the hotel. Staff were exceptional.
Lovely train trip…(once we got the correct carriage & seats😱😝😝)
Some of the scenery was beautiful, even a spattering of snow on the range. Passed through “some” beautiful farmland that ultimately has been spoiled by solar panels.
Looking forward to getting to Prague. 😊

Hello beautiful Wurzburg

Würzburg is a city in Germany's Bavaria region. It's known for lavish baroque and rococo architecture, particularly the 18th-century Residenz palace, with ornate rooms, a huge fresco by Venetian artist Tiepolo and an elaborate staircase. Home to numerous wine bars, cellars and wineries, Würzburg is the center of the Franconian wine country, with its distinctive bocksbeutel (bottles with flattened round shapes).

Take a really detailed look at the bishop. 😱😝

14 April 2024

The city of Cologne lies within the larger area of the Cologne Lowland, a cone-shaped area of the central Rhineland that lies between Bonn, Aachen and Düsseldorf. It was one of the largest European cities in medieval and renaissance times.
Prior to World War II, the city had undergone occupations by the French (1794–1815) and the British (1918–1926), and was part of Prussia beginning in 1815. Cologne was one of the most heavily bombed cities in Germany during World War II.

Cologne Cathedral third-tallest church and tallest cathedral in the world. It was constructed to house the Shrine of the Three Kings and is a globally recognized landmark and one of the most visited sights and pilgrimage destinations in Europe.
Back in the day, the mayor wasn’t liked by the people, so he had mounted below the town square a face, that in the hour, would strike out his tongue. In response to this, the people mounted a bum in retaliation.😝😝
Also at the Shrine of the 3 Kings is a bit of a giggle, anyone depicted on the Shrine, had something under it. This was to symbolises what the people thought of you.

Rüdesheim am Rhein is a town in the Rhine Valley, Germany.
I could so very easily live here! It’s known for winemaking, especially of Riesling wines. In the center, Drosselgasse is a lane lined with shops, taverns and restaurants. I went to the nearby, Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet. There I saw the museum of automated musical instruments. Medieval Brömserburg Castle is home to the Rheingau Wine Museum, exhibiting wine paraphernalia from ancient times to the present.

Mainz - A German city on the Rhine River. It’s known for its old town, half-timbered houses and medieval market squares. In the center, the Marktbrunnen is a Renaissance fountain with red columns. Nearby, a distinctive octagonal tower tops the Romanesque Mainz Cathedral, built of deep red sandstone. Tou can also see the Gutenberg Museum.
Also, where you can see 50 Deere (all called John) floating down the river!

Tune in, in about 20 minutes from a live feed of the Rhine & the castle that line the shores.🙌😊
