Our 2024 Kimberley Adventure has sadly come to an end ☹️

A lot of bucket list items have been ticked off.

✅ A total of 11,765km travelled
✅ Viewed wonderful Darwin sunsets on the harbour & on Mindil beach
✅ Chased waterfalls in Litchfield Park
✅ Saw how high crocs can jump at Adelaide River
✅ Cruised Katherine (NT) & Chamberlain (WA) Gorge
✅ Flew over and walked through the amazing Bungle Bungles
✅ Got a birds eye view of Lake Argyle
✅ Hiked Emma Gorge
✅ Lazed in the thermal pools at El Questro
✅ Cheese platters & Kimberley sunsets
✅ Scenic flying over the Buccaneer Archipelago
✅ Felt the thrill of speeding through the Horizontal Falls
✅ Received a Masterclass in pearl farming, some lucky clients
even took pearls home with them
✅ Caught a glimpse of the rare snubfin dolphin in Roebuck Bay
✅ Viewed the staircase to the moon
✅ Took an iconic sunset camel safari on Cable Beach, and viewed

Our final group activity was a sunset camel ride on Cable Beach with Broome Camel Safaris.

And what an epic sunset it was, a perfect ending for our last night in Broome!

This morning the group did a Pearl Farm Tour at Willie Creek Pearls.

This tour gives you a unique insight to the process of Pearl farming - from shell to showroom.

We also enjoyed a boat ride on Willie Creek to view the live oysters suspended in their natural habitat, they gather their necessary nutrients via tidal waters.

One of our group members was given the honouring of “oyster sitting” which was later used in our own live pearl harvest Masterclass. End result, a nice pearl which they were able to purchase as a souvenir.

A couple of the group also got to try on some of the beautiful pearl jewellery in the showroom.

Had a wonderful morning tea of freshly made cheese damper, chocolate brownies & fruit topped off a great morning.

Last night I introduced the group to Staircase to the Moon.

A natural phenomenon which occurs when a full moon rises over the exposed tidal flats of Roebuck Bay.

Yesterday the group experienced one of the greatest natural wonders of the world - the Horizontal Falls with Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures.

The Horizontal Falls, has been described by naturalist and broadcaster David Attenborough as one of the world's great natural wonders because of the way massive tidal movements create a waterfall that moves horizontally.

We enjoyed a scenic flight over the amazing islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago and Cape Leveque before our seaplane landed safely in the calm waters of Talbot Bay.

Our tour continued with an exciting cruise through the Horizontal Waterfalls, plus a relaxed island cruise followed by the shark feeding show.

This has been my third time visiting, and it still takes my breath away. So glad I could share this experience with my fellow travellers!

Yesterday afternoon we boarded “Orcella” and enjoyed an afternoon dolphin and sunset cruise with Broome Whale Watching

We were on the hunt for Australia’s rarest dolphin, the Snubfin Dolphin.

Australian snubfin dolphins have softly rounded heads. A bit melon-shaped, their heads have almost no beak and are sometimes etched with little creases behind their necks.

Let me tell you, a bit harder to capture on film than a whale, but I tried my best!

Our crew of Val, Mac & Isla kept us well fed with delicious freshly made canapés & beverages as we toasted a stunning Broome sunset.

Yesterday saw the group enjoy a private Broome Panoramic Town Tour with Broome And Around

Our local guide Georgia was so passionate about her town and its rich history.

Did you know;
In the mid 1800s Broome was originally renown for its motherof-pearl shell which was used around the world for buttons. By 1900, Broome was the centre of the pearling industry, employing more than 2000 men, 1700 of these being either Japanese or Malays, while men from the Philippines, China, Timor and the Macassar Islands, and Aboriginal men made up the remainder.

Broome, was attacked by Japanese fighter planes on 3 March 1942, during World War II. At least 88 civilians and Allied military personnel were killed.

The houses in Broome do not have letterboxes. Residents collect their mail from banks of post boxes at five locations around the town.

The 2.5-hour tour explored iconic landmarks, including Cable Beach, Gantheaume Point, Roebuck Bay, Chinatown.

Checking into the Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa, we were welcomed with a friendly smile and a glass of cold Rose.

Our home away from home for the next 5 days.

This morning we continued on from Fitzroy Crossing to Broome.

First stop Derby, lying near the mouth of the Fitzroy River on the eastern shore of King Sound. King Sound has the highest tides in Australia, and amongst the highest in the world, reaching a maximum tidal range of 11.8 metres.

We visited the Norval Gallery. Run by Kimberley artist husband and wife team Mark and Mary Norval. The gallery showcases their own work as well as the artwork of many indigenous artists from the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Next stop, Sculptures on the Marsh. An amazing and surrealistic collection of sculptures by Mark Norval and other Kimberley artists. Standing up to 10 metres high the sculptures are conveniently located on the vast tidal marsh flats.

Last stop was the Boab Prison Tree. A 1,500-year-old, large hollow boab, with a girth of 14.7 metres, It had been reputed to have been used in the 1890s as a lockup for indigenous Australian prisoners on their way to Derby for sentencing.prison tree.

We also saw Myalls Bore. Believed to be one of the longest troughs in the southern hemisphere, this construction was considered a momentous achievement for its time. It is named after the man, Myall, who created the 322-metre deep hole and provided the last resting place for cattle before being shipped out of the Derby port.

This was our last day with Kimberley Wild Expeditions, and our fantastic guide Gareth Aver. He was so professional throughout the tour and went above and beyond to ensure we all had the best experience of the kimberleys we could. He was efficient, patient and very knowledgable. He even got us to list our favourite three songs and made a playlist for our last day travelling into Broome. Thanks so much for a great tour, and long lasting memories!

Only fitting that Gareth got our final hat award.

Today we visited Mimbi Caves.

100% Indigenous owned and operated, these caves are all that remain of the Devonian Great Barrier Reef that was formed over 350 million years ago.

Rosie our guide welcomed us with a traditional smoking ceremony.

Upon entering the park it feels like you are walking into an ancient Jurassic land, the stone formations so different to what we have seen in the last week.

Rosie told stories about not only the cave’s history but of hers and her family’s history living in the area.

At the start of the tour Rosie asked us to pick up a rock and place it in our pocket. Upon entering the caves we were instructed to rub the stones under our armpits and throw them into the water so the Rainbow Serpent would recognise us, and let us pass freely.

A great experience, and highly recommend. Remember to bring a head torch with you.
