CARAVAN WEIGHTS EXPLAINED

Have you been left scratching your head after hearing about payload, ATM, GCM, TBM, tare?

There's a lot to consider when it comes to how much you can put in your van and what vehicle can safely tow your van as well. An overweight caravan is not only dangerous, it can also void your insurance in an accident.

Here's what you need to know:
⚖️ Tare mass is the base weight of the van at manufacture without payload or after-market accessories, without water in the tanks or the gas bottles filled.

⚖️ ATM (Aggregate Trailer Mass) is the maximum manufacturer specified weight of your loaded caravan or trailer and is measured unhitched and sitting on its jockey wheel and axle(s).

⚖️ GTM (Gross Trailer Mass) is the maximum weight your trailer can be at its axle(s) and is sometimes referred to as the axle capacity. Typically this is measured while the caravan or trailer wheels are sitting on a weighbridge but the hitched tow vehicle isn’t.

⚖️ TBM (Tow Ball Mass) is the effective mass on the tow ball from the trailer hitch. The maximum TBM is not typically specified by the manufacturer but as a guide should be up to 10% of the ATM.

⚖️ GCM (Gross Combined Mass) is when you weigh your tow vehicle and your caravan or trailer when they are all loaded up.

⚖️ Payload is all the bits you add on or load up to take away (keep in mind this also includes your filled gas bottles and water tanks).

Looking for some team members at Skytrek Willow Springs Station Pty Ltd in Flinders Ranges!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Skytrek Willow Springs Station is seeking energetic, hard-working people to join our team for the remainder of the 2024 Tourism Season and assist with the maintenance and housekeeping of 7 diverse self-contained accommodation ranging from small to large, alongside maintaining 17 private and secluded bush campsites with amenities & camp kitchen. These full time paid positions include cleaning of the tourism accommodation, shower blocks and camp kitchen, and involves gardening, maintenance, grounds keeping and communicating with guests.

Hours will vary daily giving the candidates the opportunity to explore the unique Flinders Ranges and to become involved within the local community. We stress the periods for which we are hiring can be extremely busy, tiring and challenging and we ask that you strongly consider this factor when applying.
Majority of the time the candidates will be working in a team environment, however there may be times you are required to work on your own.

We are looking for help to start as soon as possible and work through for the remainder of the tourism season, normally ending early December.

We would prefer people with their own caravan or motorhome as there is no staff accommodation available. Power, Water and WIFI is provided for a minimum fee and we also ask that you have a current Police Check. Please note – there is no mobile phone service at your site however there is full Telstra service available within a 10min drive and as mentioned we provide WIFI as part of your rent.
