Did you know.......

Up until 1855, the establishment operated under military administration until the Tasmanian Government takeover. Built into the side of one of the Barracks wings sits a Sentry Box, where a Red Coat once stood guard.

Preventing escape was a “tough job” for the Asylum’s Gate Keeper, especially one named John Dicker. There are records of Gate Keeper John being attacked on more than one occasion by patients attempting to escape.

Find out more about John Dicker on one of our History Tours and perhaps spend some time in his Sentry Box.

The Power of Storytelling at Willow Court

Our Storytelling tours ensures that Willow Court’s history is never lost.

Willow Court is more than just bricks and mortar - it is a place filled with voices from the past, waiting to be heard.

Through storytelling, we honor the lives of patients, staff, and visitors whose experiences shaped the legacy of this once-thriving hospital. It allows us to connect deeply with history, turning forgotten names into vivid personalities and offering insight into the social attitudes of the time.

Storytelling also transforms the way we experience Willow Court today. It’s not just a place—it becomes an emotional journey.

Join us on a fully guided tour as we Discover the UnTold Stories. The past is always waiting to be told.
