I love how the seasons vary here. This time of year, and in this part of Tasmania, everything is in full swing. With long days, there is time to potter in the garden. Paddocks are being slashed for silage and hay, tractors chugging along the country roads, and people are stacking barns with bales ready for feeding their animals through winter.

Orchards are being harvested and soon roadside stalls will be bursting with plums, cherries, peaches, raspberries and blueberries, and crayfish can be bought straight from the boats at the docks. Jam gets made and fruit preserved and the kids faces are stained by all the blackberries they eat from along the creek.

We prepare for winter by refilling woodsheds and stacking more wood to dry for following years. The local beaches are packed with roughly 10 people and we enjoy wearing shorts and tshirts, knowing we’ll be back in puffer jackets and jeans soon enough.

“A lovely escape in gorgeous surroundings. Our stay was an absolute delight. From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the stunning surroundings and warm hospitality.

One of the highlights of our stay was getting the chance to feed the goats on the property. It was such a memorable experience, especially for our four-year old who absolutely adored it.

We loved sitting in front of the fire place which added to the already cosy and relaxing atmosphere. The host provided everything we needed, from firewood to marshmallows, ensuring we felt right at home. It was a true escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, allowing us to unwind. The seasons have definitely shifted here in southern Tasmania. It’s been wild and woolly with rain, and snow has fallen on Mt Wellington/kunanyi.

Dark skies and cold winds mean the fire has been lit and warming chai teas are enjoyed. The hibernation season is fast approaching ❤️
