Today is..... Tidy it up Thursday and we're talking SSL.

Let’s face it - this is a pretty boring but important topic. SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer and provides a level of protection for your website visitors as they interact with your website.

If you don’t have SSL setup on your server (this is a server side function) - you have a problem. Browsers, like Chrome - will not let people go to your website without first telling everyone that you didn't take the proper caution to protect them (see picture).

So do yourself a favour: open chrome > pop in your website address and check to see if there is a little warning sign or a padlock. Padlock = good. Warning sign = Bad.

If you have not passed the test - contact your website hosting provider and tell them you need SSL and you need it yesterday. Also, this shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg, so be sure to not be ripped off.

This is a post for people with a .com.au and .org.au domains.

You are likely receiving prompts from various domain registrars and government bodies encouraging you to take up the .au version of your domain. You are able to use the priority securing process that ends on the 20th of September 2022.

Of course, it’s up to your business or organisation to determine if you want to take up the .au domain.

It may be wise to secure it to avoid unscrupulous parties from trying to profit from your own brand names but there is likely no benefit from actually transitioning to, or using the .au domain.

The position Australian business have been put in here can be considered a costly imposition.

It’s unfortunate that auDA have launched .au direct domains as it actively works against the built reputation of .com.au domains with Australian consumers. It has taken a long time for trust to be built with .com.au domains.

It all smells of a money grab that doesn’t benefit Australian businesses and if looking at other countries, it most likely won't be taken up. According to reports from UK registrars, attempts to do the same in the UK with .uk direct domains have failed dismally with only a truly tiny portion of businesses taking up the new domain many years down the track.

Our businesses will reluctantly purchase the new .au version of our existing domain simply to protect our brand, irrespective of our intention to actually use the domain (we won't be).

Many unidentifiable parties may purchase, or attempt to purchase, .au domains of other businesses in an attempt to profit from the hard work of others.

There will be many emails sent around by Domain Registrars pushing it because they are one of the only ones who stand to profit from it along with auDA.

Haemochromatosis Australia supports Australians affected by Haemochromatosis, which is a genetic iron overload condition.

We worked with them to create a new website to help spread vital health messages, raise community awareness, assist health professionals in learning about Haemochromatosis and provide patients with up-to-date and accurate information.

The key requirements for the website were to;
•Raise awareness about Haemochromatosis
•Educate people to recognise the symptoms
•Encourage early testing and diagnosis
•Attract funders, donors and members
•Share information about support services
•Encourage volunteering

Why is it important to find space in all the busyness?

When we take some time to find space, whether going for a walk, taking a yoga class or, like Bel today, a retreat with other women in business, it is quite impressive what can come from it.

We find creativity strikes, we find clarity, and the mental load softens.

We find the team even more productive by encouraging walks at lunch breaks, taking time out and flexing that creative muscle.

A great opportunity existed for a new website to showcase R Tucker's tourism adventures whilst leveraging their existing digital presence and showcasing the youth development side of their work.

They do amazing work to help the youth and today are featured as our Wednesday Winner!

Given the pandemic and the crushing impact it has had on overseas tourism, an opportunity existed to better reach and communicate with the domestic tourist audiences in New Zealand.

We built them a website with an upgraded design and a user-friendly experience that assisted the customer journey and ensured people knew what actions to take.

Nourishing Neighbours is just that. This organisation helps nourish those struggling to afford food in the community.

They are an Emergency Food Relief run 100% by Volunteers. Catering to Dietary and Culturally Appropriate Food and help those in the community that are the most vulnerable.
