I’ve just spent four days with the extremely dedicated scientists from NSW fisheries live trapping endangered Macquarie Perch in the stunning Cooma Gorge section of the Murrumbidgee River. The fish trapped are now on their way to Narrandera to hopefully increase the genetic variability of the Macquarie Perch breeding program. The Macca suffers from the negative effects of changed flow regimes from Snowy Hydro, excess sediment from agriculture and feral fish species such as trout, redfin and carp to name a few.
