Last week, our U16s boys and girls took to the field against Picton High School for the inaugural NAIDOC Cup!
This event was about much more than just the game—it was a celebration of the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We were honored to begin the day with a powerful smoke ceremony, setting the tone for a day filled with respect and unity.
The spirit of the game was alive and well, with exemplary performances from every player, showcasing their skills, sportsmanship, and pride in representing their schools. The atmosphere was electric, thanks to the incredible engagement from both schools spectators who came out to support the teams.
Although Picton took home the win in both games this time, our students played their hearts out, and we couldn’t be prouder of their effort. This marks the beginning of a great annual tradition, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s showdown!
To start our NAIDOC celebrations this week OPHS welcomed Diramu Aboriginal Dance and Didgeridoo from Walangari Karntawarra. Through performances they shared their authentic cultural knowledge, helping students gain a better understanding of the relevance and beauty of our First Nations cultures.
Wow! Thank you to our amazing OPHS community for your extremely generous donations for our Blue Wren House fundraiser. Not only have we been able to donate hundreds of items but we also raised $213!
A special mention to our Year 10 students who were the ones behind the scenes advocating for this wonderful cause 💙
On the 31st May, Oran Park's U18 students took on the challenge of competing against Robert Townson for the University Shield Trophy. The boys arrived to a warm welcome from Robert Townson, as students from both schools performed the Haka. It was an intense match, but Oran Park were too strong and came away with a win, becoming the University Shield champions for the MacArthur Region!
Great work boys
What’s happening in CAPA❓
On the 5th of June, selected students from OPHS attended the Sydney West Oztag competition.
Although students had an early start at 6:30am, they arrived at school and the venue with loads of enthusiasm. Students from each year group participated with great levels of sportsmanship, skill and teamwork as they progressed throughout the day.
The boys Yr 9/10, 11/12 team and girls Yr 9/10 team all progressed through to the finals but were unfortunately defeated.
The girls 7/8 team continued their valiant effort through the day and progressed through to the Grand Final where they were narrowly beaten. However, these girls will still progress to the champions of champions competition which will be held later this term
Great job Oran Park
