Our resident roo (Ruby), was resting quietly in the paddock just up from the goats yesterday, so we decided to change our plans for feeding the cattle so as not to disturb her. We kept an eye on her while we loaded the hay and notice that she has a bulging pouch, so she has a joey. She was trying to keep weight off her right leg, which hopefully is just a minor injury. We decided to open a couple of gates so she can access some other paddocks without having to jump. When I went up the feed the goats later in the afternoon she was still close to where she was, but by the time I headed back down to the house she had gone. We trust she is ok but will keep an eye out for her. ๐Ÿฆ˜๐Ÿ’•

It was hoof trimming and drenching day for the goats recently. I'm not sure why Cindy and Alana were trying to head butt each other while they waited for their turn, but it continued after they were both released. Even once Alana decided to walk away Cindy kept trying to provoke her, and is now sporting a bald patch on top of her head.

We're having to feed hay out to the cows everyday due to the fact that we didn't get rain when we needed it. Yesterday, we took a round bale out, tied it off and let it go. Unfortunately, the netting around the middle of the bale stayed in tact, as it went rolling down the hill. Solution - Harry stood by and watched as I ran down the hill after the hay, and I did manage to stop it well before it reached the fence (without falling over, thank goodness). Harry drove down and cut the netting, allowing us to pull armfuls off and load some into the car and spread out what we could into piles. Meanwhile we had the hungry cow herd were mooing their encouragement while waiting at the gate, eager to have their hay. The intermitent spitting from above was not helpful, but the large flock of yellow-tailed black cockatoos that flew over were a welcome distraction. Once we were done and the hay was ready for the cows, I went down to open the gate. I would have preferred if the gate opened towards me, but this gate opened into the paddock where the cows were, and I would have to walk in towards the cows to push it open fully. A bit intimidating when you see Ragnar is not far back in the mix. Anyway I open the gate and start pushing it open, and a couple of cows and calves go thruogh, and then comes Ragnar, when the the gate is only half open. As he walks throught he takes a step towards me and lowers his head. I'm not sure if he was thanking me or if he was annoyed, but it made me get that gate open fully very quickly so I could get out of the way. The last one through was the little calf who has stolen my heart, I'm referring to is little Erik of course.๐Ÿค โค๏ธ

Yesterday on our way to the fodder store, we came across this echidna crossing the road. It's always a thrill to see one as we don't get to see echidnas very often.๐Ÿค— And on the way home, coming down the main street of Willinga, we decided to stop at Tere Cafe & Bar (they do all day breakfast, lunch & coffee & cake). I was very happy with my choice, a hot chocolate and scone with jam & cream.๐Ÿ˜‹

All herding animals have a pecking order, and when there is just one pallett in the got shed, it's very apparent just where some of the herd stand. Yesterday, little Halo enjoyed a few minutes on the pallett before Venus took her place, and she in turn had to give it up for Zac, until Pepper came along.๐Ÿ๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿฅˆ๐Ÿฅ‰๐Ÿ…

Harry and I arrived home from a lovely holiday last night. It's great to be back home, and see the paddocks have greened up from the recent rain. We have just welcomed our overseas guests this morning, and keen to get out and feed the cows and check on the goats. A big thank you goes to Matt, who made the time to come over and feed the goats, open gates and roll out hay bales for the cattle. We greatly appreciate your help once again.๐Ÿค—

The cows were in the side paddock, (opposite the goat paddock) the other day. While I was cleaning out the goat shed I noticed I had a bit of an audience, including Iva Torvi & Astrid. These three were all bottle raised, and I'm sure they all hold happy memories of their time spent in with the goats. Also bottle raised is our Emma, she was happy just to have some quiet time with her sweet calf, Amy.๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿค
