At around 11:30PM on Saturday 28 December, the Pearl Beach Brigade responded to a report of a Structure Fire at 1 Tourmaline Avenue, Pearl Beach.
Crews quickly arrived to find the restaurant on the ground floor fully involved in fire, with LPG tanks at the rear affected by fire with large flares of flaming gas as their emergency pressure release valves opened to prevent explosion.
Crews rapidly started work ensuring the second story accommodation was evacuated. They then contained the fire to the affected structure stopping it spreading to the nearby bushland as well as trying to limit the extension of the fire into the second story.
Additional crews were rapidly on scene from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 340 Umina, Fire & Rescue NSW Station 341 Kariong and a Fire and Rescue NSW HAZMAT crew. Further RFS crews from The Bays Rural Fire Brigade and Empire Bay Rural Fire Brigade provided additional crews capable of entering the affected structure to complete suppression and overhaul.
In addition to these firefighting resources, Brisbane Water Police District and NSW Ambulance crews attended to protect the scene and to be immediately available should the firefighters entering the structure need medical attention.
The fire was extinguished and overhaul completed around 3:30AM. Crews were stood down and returned to their stations with firefighters from Pearl Beach Brigade remaining on site to manage any reignition.
At 5:30AM, with the fire completely out and cold, the Pearl Beach crews returned to station.
Despite the best efforts of crews to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and cooled, it reignited at 8:15AM, with fresh Pearl Beach RFS volunteers reattending alongside our Fire + Rescue colleagues.
Unfortunately, the damage is significant, but it was contained to part of the structure with no loss of life or injury as a result of the dedicated efforts of all our firefighters (volunteer and career) and our supporting services.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
