As we enter a busy season on WA roads, we’d like to share a friendly reminder to stay safe and monitor your speed while driving.

Here’s a refresher on the maximum permitted speed limits in Western Australia:

πŸ’‘ The maximum speed for all towing vehicles, trucks over 12t GVM, buses over 5t GVM is 100 km/h.

πŸ’‘ The maximum speed in a built-up area is 50 km/h unless signed otherwise - for example, speed limits could be lower, such as 30 or 40 km/h or higher, such as 60 or 70 km/h.

πŸ’‘ The maximum speed limit in rural or undeveloped areas is 110 km/h - the sign shown may be used on main roads into WA from adjoining states or territories to highlight the maximum permissible speed in WA.

Remember always to stay aware when behind the wheel and take rest breaks while travelling.

Give animals a β€˜brake’ and slow down at dusk and dawn πŸŒ‡

When you’re travelling on our regional roads, you may come across animals such as goats, cows, camels, emus, kangaroos or wombats on our road network.

Collisions with wildlife and livestock can be fatal for drivers, passengers, and animals, so it’s important to take the necessary safety precautions.

Always drive to the conditions and reduce your speed if you see any animals, particularly at dawn and dusk when they are most active.

To find out more about staying safe on our roads visit www.mainroads.wa.gov.au/travel-information/driving-in-wa/safety/
