I am fortunate to have travelled the world from a young age. It ignited the passion that I stil

l have today for exploring and experiencing a vast array of destinations; the cultures, climates and cuisines. I opened my first travel agency in 1991, specializing in corporate travel. I gained so much knowledge and experience organizing everything from short business trips to large conference groups, incorporating impressive recreation components. I now work from home which allows me the freedom to offer my clients a higher level of personal service. I specialise in organised tours such as my renowned ladies’ shopping trips to KL, European school tours for several Perth schools, cycling tours, cooking tours, cruises and so much more. The world is indeed an amazing place and there is an abundance of things to do and places to go. My business thrives on building awesome experience-driven itineraries for my clients. The majority of my clients are regular customers who are invariably delighted with the advice and service I am able to give them. The next stop in Italy was Palazzo Margherita , located in Bernalda, Basilicata - Francis Ford Coppola’s birthplace. The Godfather director pledged to restore this decaying building to its former glory, and his daughter Sofia was also married here.

Behind the grand wooden gates, you discover a family home. Spectacular gardens and just nine rooms make up this intimate retreat. The interior of Palazzo Margherita is styled with tiled floors and hand-painted fresco ceilings. Jacques Grange designed some of the exotic tiles and furniture, including one of the most beautiful suites, which is in a North African style to honour Francis’s Tunisian-born grandmother.

Highlights of our stay:

🍝 We joined the other new arrivals in the kitchen around the dining table to attempt the orecchiette pasta-making class. The chef patiently showed us how to roll the knife to create “little ears.” The kitchen then served up our results with wine, of course!

🎬 After our hard work in the kitchen, we retired to the drawing room where the enormous screen drops down together with the electrically operated chandelier. We sat with our gin & tonics and popcorn for our private screening of The Godfather.

🧀 Palazzo Margherita organised for us to visit their local cheese supplier, Casaficio il Mastello—a family-owned business. We watched (and sampled) the father and son produce five varieties of cheese, including Mozzarella, Stracciatella, and Burrata. The secret to their cheese is the freshness of the milk sourced from a local dairy. I have never tasted cheese like this! They have a fantastic shop in the front selling local products.

This was one of our most memorable experiences in Italy. Not only because the cheese is amazing but because we were welcomed into the shop by the family who runs it and treated like friends.

🌆 A private evening tour to Matera, just a 40-minute drive from the Palazzo, was a highlight. Photos do not do this justice, and having a private guide and driver enhanced our experience. Our guide was so knowledgeable about the area- her grandmother grew up in Matera. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is an extensive series of cave dwellings ("i sassi") southeast of town, first inhabited by Benedictine and Basilian monks. You’ll see individual cells, chapels, and even some churches, many adorned with Byzantine decorations and frescoes.
