Is There A “Best” Age To Apply For A Work Visa?
There certainly is! The “best” age will maximise your points if you’re applying for one of the points-based work visas -
• Skilled Independent (subclass 189)
• Skilled Nominated (subclass 190), or
• Skilled Work Regional Provisional (subclass 491).
Points are awarded on a number of elements - qualifications, experience...and age for which there are two key considerations:
1) You need a minimum overall point score of 65, and
2) You need to gain maximum total points.
You are in a competitive process with other applicants and so the more points above 65, the better your chance of an invitation to apply for a visa.
So, which is the “best” age with most points?
That’s when you’re at least 25 but less than 33 years - 30 points which is the highest points for age.
Next best is if you’re at least 18 but less than 25 - 25 points.
If you’re at least 33 but less than 40 years - 25 points, also.
The least points is the range of at least 40 to less than 45 - 15 points.
So, if your age is near 33 or 40, there’s no time to lose before you slip into the next age bracket and receive less points. Ensure you maximise every chance of a visa grant and talk to us at Oz Migration Action

Skilled visa applications for teachers and healthcare workers are now being assessed in just three days after a change to how skilled visas are prioritised.

The Department of Home Affairs has stopped using the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) to rank skilled visa applications as it was seen as outdated and no longer reflected the critical workforce shortages seen across Australia.

The change applies to all skilled visa nomination and visa applications that are yet to be decided, as well as new applications lodged including temporary, employer-sponsored and regional visas.

16/01/2023

Australia's annual migrant intake of skilled workers should increase in step with the yearly population increase according to the Business Council of Australia. At the moment, it wants the annual number increased from 195,000 to 220,000 for the next two years.

12/01/2023

Australia's tourism industry wants the government to reduce the application fee for working holiday visas to encourage more backpackers to come to the country. It says that the government visa cost of $510 is too high compared to the costs for New Zealand and the UK. It believes that a lower government visa charge would increase the number of backpackers coming to Australia and who are a valuable workforce for the agriculture and horticulture industries.

Free flights to Australia and $10,000 rent subsidy should be offered to overseas tradies to attract them to WA to help deal with a looming house building crisis. That's the proposal of WA's Housing Industry Association. The HIA says that this would help avoid a projected house shortfall of between 28,000 and 85,000 over the next four years.

The government is considering making it easier for global companies to transfer staff to Australia.
Simplifying such transfers is advocated by the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) to help relieve Australia's skill shortage.
CEDA says the US and the U K both have clear paths for multinational companies to bring talent into countries quickly via a streamlined process.
Currently, companies wishing to send staff to Australia must use the standard pathways available to all migrants, such as applying for a temporary skill shortage visa or permanent skilled visa.
Between 20,000 and 60,000 temporary skilled visas are issued every year, with 32,062 granted in 2021/22. It can take six months for an employee to get to Australia using this system.

There is a new priority order for processing skilled visa applications:
1. Healthcare or teaching occupation applications;
2. For employer-sponsored visas, applicants nominated by an Approved sponsor with Accredited Status;
3. Those for a designated regional area;
4. For permanent and provisional visa subclasses, visa applications that count towards the migration program, excluding the Subclass 188 (Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional)) visa;
5. All other visa applications.
For all categories above, priority will be given to holders of eligible passports as not all visa streams are open to every nationality.
Within each category, priority is given to applicants located outside Australia for provisional and permanent skilled visa applications. Visa info: 0408955770 or [email protected]

Regional NSW-based skilled migrants have a permanent visa pathway with that State Government’s new ‘Working in Regional NSW’ eligibility stream for the Skilled Work Regional 491 visa nomination. This recognises applicants’ commitment to living and working in regional NSW. \The new stream prioritises applicants who are living and working in their nominated (or closely related) occupation in a designated NSW regional and have continuously done so for 12 months and for at least 20 hours per week. If an applicant meets all stream criteria, they may apply directly for NSW nomination and minimum points score and work experience requirements do not apply for applicants in this stream.
