White-plumed Honeyeater spotted at Goolinee Cattle Pool, Mount Augustus National Park 🐤

This species is one of the first birds to call in the morning, and last to call in the evening, and hangs out around eucalypt-lined rivers and creeks like Goolinee Cattle Pool.

Goolinee is a permanent water source along the usually dry Lyons River in WA, and is lined with beautiful river gums. Mount Augustus in the backdrop makes for a beautiful spot to sit and quietly observe the wildlife going about their daily business 💚

Keep River National Park, Northern Territory 🌴

Located just 3 km east of the NT/WA border, Keep River is one of the Northern Territory’s best kept secrets. The striped sandstone structures, similar to the Bungle Bungle domes in WA, are geological wonders and protect many ancient Aboriginal rock art sites. The structures also provide important habitat and refuge for native wildlife.

To discover this uniquely beautiful park for yourself, join our Tanami Desert Expedition travelling from 22 June to 5 July 2024, Alice Springs to Kununurra 🌴

The Houtman Abrolhos Islands, Western Australia 🏝️

This beautiful coastal haven is made up of 122 islands, and can be explored by boat or by plane, by sea or by foot. Located 60 km west of Geraldton, the islands extend 100 km from north to south.

Over 2 million seabirds breed here, and the islands mark the northernmost habitat of the endangered Australian Sea Lion. The coral reef communities include temperate and tropical marine species, from fish to crayfish to dolphins, and migrating humpbacks can be seen from July to September. On land, 140 species of native flora and fauna are found, including the Tammar Wallaby.

A fascination history surrounds the islands, from its pearling industry to the many shipwrecks, including the Batavia, wrecked in 1629 following a mutiny onboard the ship.

The housework never ends! 🛖

This fella, a Great Bowerbird, maintains his avenue bower (a nice shady spot under plants in the woods) by finding sticks to support the walls. He then decorates with snail shells, bones, some green fruits & leaves, some red items, and even human artefacts 💍

He will spend most of the year building, maintaining, improving, defending and displaying his bower, as only those with successful bowers will attract a mate.

Hopefully he impresses those ladies checking it out 🦜🦜🦜

G’day mate! This little fella is a Blue-winged Kookaburra, spotted in the Kimberley region in Western Australia.

Described as having “mad-looking” white irises (what do you think 👀) and “insane-sounding” calls, this bird certainly knows how to grab your attention!

Found in the northern areas of Australia, this species is more shy than its relative the Laughing Kookaburra, and doesn’t sound like them either! They still have a good “laugh” though, and how beautiful is that blue plumage 😍
