1️⃣. You need a sim for your phone. Can be done immediately at the airport or in a shop. We recommend to check the coverage of your destination before choosing the right sim for you.
2️⃣. Bank Account
If you travelling for work, you need to open a bank account with an Australian bank. The most famous are Commonwealth bank, Nab, ANZ...and many more. The procedure is easy, go to the bank chosen with your identity documents and ask to open a new account. It should be done in 30 min more or less.
3️⃣. Medicare if eligible
Medicare is the Public Health insurance. You can apply through https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/enrolling-medicare?context=60092. The card should arrive at your address in few weeks. You can already start going to the doctor even if the card hasn't arrived yet, just remember to claim your rebate online if you had out of pocket expenses.
4️⃣. Tax File number
If you would like to work you need a TFN. It is a unique number (for life) that identifies you for paying taxes and be paid. It is not compulsory but if you don't do it you pay more taxes. You can start working if you have applied for TFN but not arrived yet, just remember to tick "I have applied for my TFN" in the Tax form your employer will give you and then notify him once you receive the TFN.
