What lies behind the doors of New Norcia?

New Norcia was founded by Spanish Benedictine Monks in 1847 and is Australia’s only monastic town. The little town is filled with Spanish architecture and art and tells the history of the Aboriginal mission that once was. For the purpose of providing education and support to the local Indigenous people, schools, churches and community buildings were designed and built by the Spanish monks, and are still standing today.

Visit the towns art gallery and museum, Abbey Church, St Gertrude’s College and a local New Norcia produce shop to purchase olive oils, fruits and breads before visiting the Pinnacle Desert.
