Never to pass up an opportunity to learn more about our favourite delicacy from the WA ocean.
We spied a WA Rock Lobster factory that just so happened to have a lobster restaurant and beach side bar attached.
After a factory tour we enjoyed some fruits of their labour.
When in WA you just gotta do it yummo - Hey we just drove a dusty desert , time for a coldie.

We took the opportunity to visit the Pinnacle Desert just south of Cervanties on the WA turquoise coast.
The Pinnacles are amazing natural limestone structures, formed approximately 25,000 to 30,000 years ago after the sea receded and left deposits of sea shells. Over time, coastal winds removed the surrounding sand, leaving the pillars exposed to the elements. The Pinnacles range in height and dimension - some stand as high as 3.5m!
Incredible to drive through them on a designated sandy track weaving through the eery statues was a great experience.

We heard about a giant tractor statue being unveiled not far from geralton where we are staying , out On the flat plains amongst the wheat fields of midwest Western Australia. So off we went.

OMG - An orange LIFE LIKE tractor, standing 11.5 metres tall and 16 metres long, dominates the skyline of the small town of Carnamah. The tractor is an exact replica of a Chamberlain 40K, built to five times the scale. It is the world’s biggest tractor statue built completly from fabricated steel

Even the tyres are fabricated steel.
The statue was constructed piece by piece by the mining contractor DIAB Engineering, in the nearby town of Geraldton. Sixty people worked on it over 17 months. It was delivered to Carnamah on six prime mover trucks and assembled, with final paint touch-ups, over the course of a week.
A truly incredible sight. Magnificent detail and top quality design and fabrication work.

The Chamberlain 40K was chosen for its importance to WA agriculture. The machines were designed by the Victorian tractor mechanic Bob Chamberlain, who designed the prototype in the 1930s specifically for large landholdings like those in the expanding wheatbelt, midwest and Esperance cropping regions of WA. The tractors were manufactured in an ex-munitions factory in the Perth suburb of Welshpool and the first Chamberlain 40Ks rolled off the line in 1949.

Yesterday We decided to do a little inland 300km round trip from Geralton out to Mullewa and on to Pindar to admire the wild flowers and discover these Wreath flowers that we had heard about, apparently they grow in a circle with pink and white flowers around the edge and only grow in certain places around the globe including this small stretch of dirt road side in outback WA.
These flowers bloom from August to October, and their round shape and bright colors makes them resemble a flower wreath. !!!.
The ghost town of Pindar was also a junction for the wool wagons of days past and has a grain storage facility situated in the weat belt of WA.
The extinct railway system that ran from mullewa out to pindar and beyond closed in 1978 its now overgrown and falling to ruin but makes for some great pics.
A nice drive out through the vast grain fields, wild flowers and quaint little towns from the past.
Even spotted Daddy emu out with 9 chicks, unfortunately he herded them into the grain field before we get a good Picture.

BUT - The Flies , OMG ,they were relentless, sticky little bastards. Aaaahh. Drove us mad.

Best Day out as we joined the Lobster tour this morning With Kalbarri Rock Lobster Tours & Charters
Early start to meet the crew - Skipper Vaughan and Deckie off sider Kate along with other guests at 6.30 am on a mild morning.
Safety briefing out of the way and we headed out through the choppy passage.
The skipper was a 3rd generation lobster fisherman / farmer and a wealth of knowledge.
Amazing industry, sustainable seafood farming at its best.
Learning so much today and enjoying the taste of fresh lobster and getting to share in todays catch was a surprise bonus.
Thank you so much for the experience.
Needless to say theres fresh WA Red Rock lobster on the menu tonight.

Another chance encounter while day tripping along the spectacular coastal cliffs of kalbarri - we noticed another little Thorny Devil lizard crossing the hot bitumen road so we quickly pulled over to save the little guy from risking being squished, such a cute ugly little critter, we had a little time together and then set him back in the scrub to go his merry way.
We then came face to face with an emu out for a stroll along the road side, Way cool.
The rugged coastline is just spectacular.

Today we took a short drive down to visit Hutt Lagoon and the spectacular pink lake at Port Gregory about 45 minutes south of Kalbarri.
Amazing views from the Lake Lookout on Port Gregory Road, where you can safely pull off the road, park your car and get out to view the Amazing phenomina.
Its incredible, the whole lake is bubble gum pink.
The lake's colour changes through the spectrum of red to bubblegum pink to lilac purple, depending on the time of day, the season (time of year) and amount of cloud cover when you visit.
The best time to visit is typically on a cloudless day in the middle of the day, when the sun is high.

WHY IS IT PINK -
Hutt Lagoon boasts a pink hue created by the presence of carotenoid-producing algae, Dunaliella salina, which is a source of beta-carotene; a food-colouring agent; and a source of Vitamin A.

Another day visiting the amazing picturesque rock formation in the Kalbarri national park.
Spectacular views and beautiful wild flowers.

How was Nature's Window Formed? During the past 400 million years the landscape of the Kalbarri National Park has been slowly formed by the Murchison River, which has created the magnificent deep red and white banded gorges through the landscape. Nature's Window was formed from layers of Tumblagooda Sandstone.

We Had a fantastic day out at the Kalbarri Skywalk .
Beautiful drive out through the wild flower laden country side. The structural steel viewing platform out over the gorge is incredible and gives you the most amazing viewing experience .
From an engineering perspective for me it was just an incredible experience and to then come accross the tiny Thorny Devil Lizard was a great stroke of luck and made the day for us as we'd been on the lookout since arriving in WA.

OMG , Our lucky day.
We were fortunate enough to come accross one of these cute Thorny little devils while driving back to camp.
Thorny devils are native to Australia and live in the country's arid scrubland and interior desert. These small lizards grow to 8 inches (20 centimeters) long and have evolved an impressive set of defenses, including an appendage on the back of the necks that acts as a "'false head."

When threatened, the lizards tuck their real head down between their front legs, leaving the fake head exposed while protecting the real head.
These lizards' defenses don't stop there. Their bodies are covered in spikes, which are the size of rose thorns and are thought to deter predators by making the lizards difficult to capture, bite and swallow.

Thorny devils can also inflate their chests to make themselves look larger when faced with a threat. When they're out in the open — either looking for food or mates — they also have a slow and jerky walk, which is thought to confuse predators.
Devils are well-adapted to their hot, harsh environment. In extreme temperatures, they bury themselves in sand to protect themselves from the sun. They then use channels on their skin, located between their scales, to draw moisture from damp sand and transport it to their mouths.
They can also change color to help them regulate their body temperature and metabolism. In the cooler mornings, the lizards are a drab brown, becoming a lighter yellow as the temperature rises and they become more active. The lighter coloring likely helps reflect the sun and prevents them from overheating. However, they can also change color quickly in order to camouflage themselves.
In reality, though, thorny devils are harmless — unless you're a predator or an ant. They can consume thousands of the insects a day, using their sticky tongues and hard teeth to capture ants.
So cute and dosile.
