Kenya Elephant Orphanage Safari October 2023 (Post 3)
African Fund for Endangered Wildlife - Giraffe Centre
gives visitors new insights to the different giraffe species that populate Kenya and how to identify them by their markings.
The Giraffe Centre is the home to the Rothschild Giraffe which is classified as an endangered species. There are now over 300 safe and breeding in various Kenyan National Parks thanks to this conservation program.
Each person is given a coconut bowl of pellets that they can feed the giraffes. The experience is hard to describe. You think their tongue and lips would be rough considering the thorny bushes they feed from. It was the softest and most gentle contact.

Kenya Elephant Orphanage Safari October 2023 (Nairobi Orphanage)
Feed time at Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Nairobi orphanage.
Meeting the baby Ellies for the first time π₯° so many diverse personalities throughout them all. Some are shy, some are energetic and vocal and some are just naughty π
The area is roped off for visitors to stand around and watch them feed and play. Some Ellies will come over for a butt scratch, most just want to eat and roll in the dirt before heading off, back to the bush. Feeding is done in batches of about 10 elephants at a time. We got to see about 4 groups come through. Watching them come in from the bush trumpeting and running for the bottles was quite entertaining. The relationships they build with the keepers is a beautiful thing π₯°
Every visit is a new experience.
Kenya Elephant Orphanage Safari October 2023
We arrived in Nairobi on the 30th September to meet our clients and driver before settling into our accommodation.
This trip was tailored for our clients birthday and to fulfill her bucket list to visit the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust orphans.
Nairobi is the Capital of Kenya and has a lot to offer in regards to wildlife, historical tourist attractions and arts n crafts created by the talented locals.
Below are some photos from our trip to the Nairobi National Park and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage which are located in close proximity to one another.
It was nice to see Rhino right next to a capital city and these two fellas were having a snooze right in the middle of a cross roads. They had no intention of moving. This gave us the perfect opportunity to take some great photo's and observe them in a peaceful environment.
At Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) - Nairobi they open up to visitors to view the lunchtime feeding and the first cab off the rank was Raha (meaning "Joy" in swahili), a recently rescued baby Rhino who was no bigger than a medium sized dog (cuteness overload). He stayed close to the keepers heels and enjoyed a dirt bath after a bottle of milk. Raha had severe injuries to his backend and ended up losing his tail and having to have major surgery. The SWT do an amazing job of caring and rehabilitating the Elephants and Rhino back into the wild wherever possible and have locations throughout Kenya dedicated solely to this.

Lots of Ostrich all different ages.
This pair had five to look after. We saw a group of around thirty youngsters with two adults.

After fitting our New tyres at FitIt in Upington South Africa. https://www.facebook.com/FitItUpington.
We headed to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and saw an Aardvark that crossed the road, by the time I could get the camera out and set up it was gone. π managed this photo. Not an animal you see everyday.
Young Ostrich on Klondike Guest Lodge. Very friendly and still in the young feather coverage.
On our way to Upington on our last 6 week trip to southern Africa. We stayed at Klondike Guest Lodge and they had a few springbuck and young Ostrich walking around. Black and white springbuck where interesting. Black and White Springbok is a variation/mutation in colour from the Common Springbok

Jacinta here posting for RAS.
We landed in Jo'burg on the 17th April, packed up Arnold (the bush beast) and headed to Upington on the 20th for new tyres at Fit It. Thanks Albe π
Kgalagadi Transfrontier NP was our next destination until the 1st May. Managed to see a few cats, a brown Hyena and amazing bird life, not to mention Gemsbok, Springbok and the extensive herds of ostrich. Not one dropped a feather for our collection.
Connection has been poor, so only managed to post now while here in Sossusvlie Namibia.
We went to the dunes today and what an amazing work of natures destructive creativity that was.
Unfortunately Namibia like to charge foreigners double the price, so we won't be staying long this trip.
Enjoy some photo's taken on my samsung 20s plus. John is still downloading his numerous photos which he will post asap.
Lots of love John & Jacinta
Merry Christmas everyone, Hope you all had a fantastic year and hope an even better one next year. Travel safe and keep enjoying your safaris. Lots happened this year.
Hope to get out to Africa in the new year.
Rhino Day 22nd September 2022.
There are still some awesome places to see these beautiful White Rhino. Hope we can stop the incentive to poach them some how. Education is a start. No the horn does not have any medicinal values and your dagger handles don't have to be made of Rhino horn π‘. I know hard to believe right π€
Hope you all have a fantastic day.
