Discover the charm of Hanging Tree Wines. Even in slightly dreary weather this cellar door just oozes charm and you can't help but be won over by the welcoming committee of three friendly, happy dogs that will greet you with warmth and enthusiasm. Enjoy the leisurely stroll through the lovingly kept gardens down the rustic brick path. We received a warm welcome from Martin, who presented us with an impressive array of sparkling, white and red wines. With their dedication to exceptional customer service, a visit is sure to be unforgettable. Don't forget to reserve your spot in advance, as they tend to attract a crowd even on weekdays.

Oh wow!! Photos coming soon but Bonvilla Estate treated myself and my guests to the most amazing lunch today which I could best describe as “Mediterranean family style”. It just blew us away.

Enzo Hunter Valley is the perfect blend of ambience, service and cuisine and the perfect place to stop for a bite to eat. We highly recommend adding the potatoes to your order as they are just so delish! (Just ensure you book as it does get very popular). With boutique shops and three cellar doors also set within the Peppers Creek Village there is plenty to occupy a few hours of your time. We love to do wine tastings at Comyns & Co. and if it is free, sitting in the lounge area gives you the most beautiful outlook at the same time.

If you haven't made plans yet for the 10th of May head up to the Hunter Valley and start your weekend on Friday night with music by John O'Reilly Singer / Songwriter (a personal favourite), food and wine at Saddler's Creek Wines. John is playing from 4 to 7pm. Then book Wine Trails with Lisa for a day tour on the Saturday.

NUMBER 10, which rounds off our Top Ten list for the Hunter Valley, is Wollombi Road Providore which will complement your Hunter Valley getaway nicely. Here you can find an assortment of fresh pre-made meals, local produce, and delectable sweets and coffee. We highly recommend stopping by to gather supplies for your visit or to create your own cheese platter. Don't forget to pick up some items for the road to keep the holiday spirit alive upon your return.

NUMBER 9 on our Top Ten things to do in the Hunter Valley has to be Audrey Wilkinson winery which sits high on the hill offering spectacular 360 degree views of the vineyards and mountains beyond. With lovely wines, picnic options and history this must be on your list. Take your photo with Audrey himself (or his life size cutout at least), who at 15 years old, in the 1890’s, took on the running of the family vineyard.

NUMBER 8 on our Top 10 favourite things in the Hunter Valley is the historic village of Wollombi (Visit Wollombi). Take the scenic route from Sydney through Peats Ridge and Kulnurra. Pass through Laguna and stop in at the Trading Post Laguna for a bite to eat and a drink on the verandah. Another 10 minutes on will bring you into this boutique and arty town at the Wollombi Tavern where you can try the famous Dr Jurd's Jungle Juice. They also have spectacular fireworks and lots of action for New Years Eve. With plenty of wineries, lots of lovely cafes and restaurants, art galleries, historic landmarks and buildings, you really do have to take the day to explore. Some places of note are WollombiKitchen_NextDoor, Wollombi General Store / Harp of Erin Gallery Cafe & Theatre, WollombiKitchen_NextDoor, Myrtle and Stone and Noyce Brothers Wine. They also host the most amazing event (next one is 14th - 29th September 2024) Wollombi Sculpture in the Vineyards with world class artists and sculptors displaying their works. So ensure you put WOLLOMBI on your list next time you visit.

NUMBER 7 on our Top Ten favourite things in the Hunter Valley has to be the relatively new Nineteen Hunter Valley. Located in the well known The Vintage Resort, Hunter Valley, with a fabulous restaurant, bistro and new Dessert Bar they manage to cater to everyone, from the very young munchkins to the more mature guests. Make sure you check them out next time you are visiting. You will not be disappointed.

Have you heard the news?! The Airstream Dessert Bar is officially open ✨ See you today from 12pm - 2:30pm & 5pm - late for French Crepes and Spanish Churros!

Following on from our top ten things to see and do in the Hunter Valley is NUMBER 6, the Hunter Valley Gardens. We personally are just amazed that these gardens were only created in 1999 and opened in 2003 (not a long time in the scheme of things). When you meander through, it feels like they have been established for hundreds of years. Make sure you grab a map as you enter because it's easy to miss some of the 10 themed gardens. At different times of the year the HVG put on various events such as Mega Creatures (dinosaurs), Snow Time, Christmas Lights and Rose Week (where you can see the first new flush of roses for the year) so pick your time to visit depending on your interests. No food or drink (excluding water) is allowed in but they have a lovely cafe and there's plenty of places for picnics outside the gardens themselves.

Another fun-filled tour of the Hunter, with perfect Autumn weather. After a terrific Peterson House breakfast it was was wine tasting with the very knowledgeable Zac, followed by the equally knowledgeable Dave at Comyns & Co.. With stops at Hunter Valley Aqua Golf and Putt Putt, Goldfish Bar & Restaurant, Hunter Valley and Audrey Wilkinson we finished the day with one last tasting at Bonvilla Estate, with the ever charming Jo and Craig, and of course, our guests could not leave without a cuddle from Harvey the pup. Thank you to our guests for your company. There’s never enough time in the day.

We had a wonderful wine tour yesterday with these gems (you’ll normally see Zac and Lilli at the cellar door at Peterson House) but this time they were on the tasting side. Thanks to Bonvilla Estate, Comyns & Co. Piggs Peake Winery and Moorebank Vineyard for the fantastic hospitality. Definitely all “must do’s” for visitors to our beautiful Hunter Region.

NUMBER 5 on our Top Ten favourite things in the Hunter Valley is a great one for those with a sweet tooth. A visit to the amazing Sabor Dessert Bar reveals the most incredible EDIBLE pieces of art. If you can't fit it into your day make it your last stop and buy one to take home. On weekends and public holidays make sure you book if you want to eat in as it is very popular. While you're there head downstairs to the Pokolbin Cider House and do a tasting paddle of 4 ciders of your choice. We certainly have our favourites but enjoy finding yours.

NUMBER 4 on our Top Ten favourite things in the Hunter Valley is Hunter Valley Aqua Golf and Putt Putt. With fresh air, music and the fun challenge of hitting a golf ball into the water in the hope of landing in a net and winning a prize, it doesn't get better than this. Adjoining the Hunter Valley Gardens and Village with fantastic shops to investigate, this is a great activity to break up the wine tasting. Golf balls are bought by the bucket and you can have unlimited clubs/people playing. Choose one bay or more for your group. We personally like to only take one or two bays and then take turns as it just increases the fun when everyone cheers each other on.

NUMBER 3 on our Top Ten favourite places in the Hunter Valley is Peterson House. You could easily say this is Hunter Valley's home to the bubbles, specifically their famous "Pink Blush". Plan to do a paid seated tasting (a wide variety of packages including bubbly and gelato are available), or just start your day with a bubbly breakfast. The restaurant is exceptional with lovely outdoor areas and beautiful scenery. On your way out stop by the chocolate shop and indulge a little and don't forget to smell the spectacular roses.

NUMBER 2 on our Top Ten favourite places in the Hunter Valley(sort of a two in one) - Head for Roche Estate, with its beautiful tree-lined driveway and rolling grass that just entices children to run. First stop do a tasting at Tempus Two Cellar Door, Pokolbin. With a fabulous vibe, warm staff, and just a delicious selection of wines, you'll be hard pressed to walk away without falling in love with one. The bottles are also pretty special with copper and pewter labels which just make for terrific gifts. Once you've made your purchases head next door to Goldfish Bar & Restaurant, Hunter Valley for unique and ever-changing cocktails and a snack (we can never go past their fish tacos). Choose inside or outside seating for completely different vibes, each one special. They also have lots of extra events in the evenings so keep an eye on their page and add to your "to do" list.

We are passionate about the Hunter Valley and want to share some of our favourite spots. Just to begin, we are going to give you a list of our Top Ten.

NUMBER 1 - If you haven't already visited The Deck Cafe Lovedale, it should be on your "to do" list. Located within the Gartlemann Wines estate, they have amazing menus from breakfast to dinner. Lunch is tapas style and there's always new options to try. Sit outside overlooking the dam with water lillies (in season right now) and just take it all in. Make sure you do a wine tasting at Gartelmann Wines also. They are also on the trail for the Lovedale Long Lunch (18th and 19th May 2024) so book your tickets now.

A lovely review from a recent guest. Thanks Julie.

"I hired SHV [now known as Wine Trails with Lisa] while I was visiting Newcastle for a day to Hunter Valley. It was one of the best experiences I’ve had. Lisa came all the way to Newcastle to pick me up. She was very friendly, warm, helpful, and knowledgeable about Hunter valley area and all the wineries. She gave me so many valuable and excellent suggestions. She went above and beyond to make my trip memorable and interesting. She was very flexible, tailored my trip based on my interests and budget. And she ended up throwing in quite a few extras. I had a great time tasting wine, having coffee, eating in a restaurant, visiting famous Hunter Gardens, and enjoying the spectacular view from the highest lookout! I can’t recommend Lisa enough for sightseeings and tour guides. I wish to come back to Hunter Valley and enjoy SHV’s service again!"
