📢 Country of Origin Labelling: Time is Running Out!

Seafood Industry Australia is calling on the Albanese Government to fulfil its promise to implement Country of Origin Labelling (CoOL) for seafood in food service before the next federal election.

Labor made a clear commitment ahead of the 2022 election, and in 2023, state and federal consumer affairs ministers unanimously supported the change. But despite industry consultation and a $3 million budget for public awareness, there has been little movement.

As highlighted in The Australian by Charlie Peel, SIA CEO Veronica Papacosta has warned that failing to deliver the scheme would be seen as a broken promise to the seafood industry and Australian consumers.

CoOL requires hospitality venues to indicate whether seafood is from Australia (A), International (I), or Mixed origin (M)—providing transparency and showcasing the quality of Australian seafood.

We urge the Albanese Government to act now and deliver on its commitment!

Thank you, Charlie Peel, for highlighting this important issue.
