A big THANK YOU from our Adventure Bay Charters Family

As you may be aware, our business has been sold to Calypso Star Charters, another award-winning local operator. Although we are sad to be saying goodbye, it's comforting to know visitors in the future are in good hands and will continue to enjoy our amazing marine life.

Today, we are here to thank all the subscribers, passengers, agencies, and everyone who has supported us for the last 14 years. Your love, support and encouragement is the reason we have made it this far.

A huge thanks also to the founder's Matt & Tracy Waller and their family. Their innovation and hard work built Adventure Bay Charters and the way they treat people inspired all of our staff and made us like a big family. It's time for the Waller family to start their new adventure.

Meanwhile, thanks to all our staff, you all share a passion for marine mammals, hospitality and tourism. Your professionalism, consideration and sense of humour make a tough day on the sea become a memorable adventure, and we couldn't thank you more for being part of our Adventure Bay Charters family.

Over the years, there are so many laughs and tears to remember, and so many achievements to celebrate. As this is our last roar, let's walk through the time from the beginning to now.

Today is a day of mixed emotions as we share the sale of Adventure Bay Charters. It has been an amazing 14 years and we are so proud of what we have achieved and grateful for the people we have met along the way. We thank our staff over the years for supporting our crazy ideas and making Matt's dreams a reality (there were a lot of dreams!) We also thank all the people that chose to travel with us and allowed us to share what we are so passionate about. It's exciting to see what the future holds and we wish the new owners all the best.

Our Story

Adventure Bay Charters’ story begins with a fourth-generation fisherman and his love for all things marine related. This fisherman goes by the name of Matt Waller of Port Lincoln, South Australia. Matt’s passion became the forefront of his business production and the reason behind its growth and continued success since its birth eleven years ago. In building Adventure Bay Charters, he created an open invitation for you to share in his excitement in an advanced eco-friendly way. Listed as an established eco-tourism business, inducted into the South Australian Tourism Hall of Fame and a multi-award winning business, Adventure Bay Charters grants you access to Great White Sharks and Australian Sea Lions in their wild, pristine homes. It is vital you know that Adventure Bay Charters is the only blood, bait and berley free, shark cage diving operator in the world! The use of music as a lure is unique to this company only. Acoustic attraction through underwater speakers means a calmer interaction with the sharks and you get to listen to classic hits while you dive.

Matt created this business to share his endless oceanic knowledge with the world and to allow others to experience the life he has been lucky enough to live. He employs people who share his passion in order to maintain his original vision and to ensure guests on board the Adventure Bay Charters vessels, see the natural wonders of our world as they should be seen; untouched.

In order to satisfy the masses and offer an alternative to thrill-seeking, fear focused activities, Matt introduced the Swimming with Sea Lions tour in 2007, when Adventure Bay Charters officially opened. On board this tour, Adventure Bay Charters takes you to a local colony and provides you exclusive access to Sea Lions in their natural state; sticking to the eco-friendly practices already in place. Here, you snorkel freely, with the Sea Lions’ natural playful sense and curiosity, making for the closest encounters you will have. Named the “puppies of the sea,” these beautiful animals love attention, something we are happy to provide.

As this story develops, so too does the business plan. Wanting to maximise inclusion, during 2014, Matt designed and built his unique idea of an “Aqua Sub.” This was officially implemented in 2015 after first introducing shark cage diving tours in 2010. This 360-degree glass room would revolutionise the shark cage diving industry and position Adventure Bay Charters as a competitive business. By providing a room that is completely submerged but allows you to remain dry, Matt changed the nature of Great White Shark viewing and allows you the option to take the plunge in the cage or opt for the other perfect observer alternative. By running with smaller group sizes and twelve people underwater at all times, he also increased your chances of viewing sharks and photo opportunities.
