⚜️ 𝑷𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅’𝒔 𝑼𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝑻𝒖𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒍𝒔 ⚜️

In the murky past of Portland, where both saints and sinners resided, the Old Portland Gaol stood as an eerie presence.
Built in 1844 but torn down in 1938, the Gaol had a mysterious underground tunnel leading to the towns popular foreshore.

An article from ABC in 2016 states that:
Trevor Smith, who manages Glenelg Shire's historical artifacts, mentioned rumors of prisoners being sneaked in and out through these tunnels, though the motive remains a puzzling mystery.

The fate of those confined within the gaol remains uncertain, with questions lingering about whether they served their sentences or vanished along Victoria's southwest coast. It's a chilling mystery that time has yet to reveal.

Historian Anne Grant disputes these tales, but it's a reminder that even in this remote corner of the world, daring escapes weren't unheard of.

Our Ballarat Ghost tour with Dan from Eerie Tours was an unforgettable experience. Dan was an exceptional tour guide, offering a wealth of knowledge about Ballarat and its rich history. He seamlessly weaved in spine-tingling ghost facts, adding an eerie layer to our exploration. During the gripping 2-hour walk through Ballarat's streets, we were granted access to the grand foyer of 'Craig's Royal Hotel,' which added a touch of elegance to our eerie adventure.

In the shadowy alleyway of an old building, we captured an orb on camera—a spectral presence that seems to have a connection with Dan, possibly the spirit of a tragic soul who met a heartbreaking fate at the building's summit. Dan even surprised us by showing a video of the same orb following him down the alleyway on another tour, leaving us both informed and haunted by the tales of Ballarat's past.
If you haven’t been on the Ballarat Ghost tour we would highly recommend it to anyone chasing the paranormal or for anyone that has a love of history or even dark history here in Australia.
