With ancient stone house sites and an aquaculture system older than the pyramids, the cultural heritage of Budj Bim Indigenous Protected Area in southwestern Victoria is mind-blowing.

Just wow, we're nearly half way into the year, they do say that time flies when you're having fun. The Rangers / Tour Crew have been so busy not only with our ongoing ground work but we've been out collecting seed with the Melbourne's Royal Botanical Garden Crew. Another time with Arthur Rylah Institute putting out fyke nets for fish surveys, although not all that much fun when you're catching tiger snakes instead, that was a heart starter 😳and under the watchful eye of the fantastic women of the Forestry Fire Management (Heywood depot) we attended a Women's Cultural Firesticks gathering, you can still see our efforts at Tae Rak. Huge thanks to Gunditj Mirring.
Lol we cannot have a posting without a bird or two.

Introducing Ben, Ben has been with the Rangers since 2019, Ben previously worked at Melbourne's Botanical Gardens, bringing a lot of knowledge and passion for all things leafy and colorful.

International Ranger day ☺️

The Budj Bim Rangers crew have a multitude of skill sets. We're conducting warfare on weeds and introduced pests species. Also re-introducing mosaic burns back into the landscape. We're fighting the good fight for the revegetation of native and provincial trees, shrubs and grasses. We use Traditional & modern methods to best care for Country & to nurture & restore landscape.
Importantly the Budj Bim Rangers have throughout the years have strengthened Community and reinforced Culture. Our Mentors Aunty Eileen and Uncle Tony do an amazing job 🥰 we learn & in doing so, share the knowledge.
Our connection to Mirring (Country) is crucial, for the protection & recognizing Cultural Sites.
And we do all this on the UNESCO World Heritage Listed, Budj Bim Lava Flow. 🥰
This is more than just a job, it's a passion to leave the Country in the best possible condition for the intergeneration of Gunditjmara.

April was such an exciting month for the Budj Bim Rangers and Budj Bim Tours. :)
Huge thanks to the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation for making this dream a reality.

What a deadly turnout we had for the opening of our Budj Bim Ranger Depot in Portland recently!

The Budj Bim Ranger Depot will expand and develop over time to create more opportunities for Aboriginal people to care for country and become a space for many cultural activities and experiences for mob as well as the wider community.

Special thanks to the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation for their continued support of Winda-Mara and their support of self-determination for Gunditjmara people allowing us to create a space for bringing community together, where we can share knowledge and culture and create new enterprises.
