❤️A walk to enjoy spectacular views,
birdlife
and history,
a short distance from the chalets,
thanks to the hardwork of the Friends of Gorman’s Gap who have rehabilitated the track❤️

A breathtaking 360-degree view now comes with a deeper connection to history at Gorman’s Gap in Preston/Upper Flagstone, thanks to a newly installed seat that pays tribute to one of Queensland’s most significant early transport routes.

Evening skies at

💚On a Summer Day💚

When comes the time,
The sun goes down,
In the afternoon,
The shade settles
over the escarpment,
Bringing relief from
The heat of the day.
As the sun reaches the horizon
At the back the hill,
The towering peaks of the surrounding valleys
Start shining in the pink evening light,
The stillness around, suddenly shaken,
By the loud chorus of the cicadas
Coming to sing together.

On a Summer Day,
When the sun goes down,
Golden and pink lights
Brush the sky,
In an unique composition
Not to be seen again.
Perhaps a moment to seize
And cherish,
Like any other moments,

On a Summer Day.

⚠️ IMPORTANT WILDLIFE ANNOUNCEMENT ⚠️
This is a public notice to advise of a special rehabilitation release in the south side of Toowoomba.
A leucistic animal has been released in a secret location on the south side of Toowoomba after extensive rehabilitation efforts by many. This animal was originally taken into care due to human interference and a secondary illness due to this interference. Despite constant efforts to stop members of public interference with the animal, it did not stop. Hence his illness and removal due to people not following instruction from wildlife officials. After months of rehabilitation he has been re-released and we (and several other carers) are tracking him.
It is essential if you see this animal you do NOT feed, do not approach and do not contain.
Please use common sense if you see this animal and do not disclose the location if you are lucky enough to have him pass through your area. Enjoy him quietly.
Decisions and actions made by the community following his release will affect his successful or failure. Untoward actions may result in cessation of his release plan and complete removal from his natural environment. Please leave him be.
We had debated posted this notice but given the circumstances and his high nocturnal visibility we felt it prudent. Also to ensure his location was not plastered over social media to give him an opportunity to succeed.
There are a number of carers and organisations involved in this case. If anyone does site him please feel free to contact on 0484-574-694 and note "sighting only". If any concerns call or sms 0484-574-694 at any time for assistance 24/7.

Happy Summer Solstice to everyone!
Today, is the longest day of the year otherwise called Summer Solstice, when the South pole is tilted the most towards the sun and the sun is at its highest point in the sky. I share with you this poem by Mary Oliver in honour of the sun, remembering that its warm glow is essential for life to happen on Earth. It’s the perfect day to spend time watching the sunrise and/or sunset, to enjoy the outdoors, surrendering to the warmth of the Summer season.

The Sun

Have you ever seen
anything
in your life
more wonderful

than the way the sun,
every evening,
relaxed and easy,
floats toward the horizon

and into the clouds or the hills,
or the rumpled sea,
and is gone–
and how it slides again

out of the blackness,
every morning,
on the other side of the world,
like a red flower

streaming upward on its heavenly oils,
say, on a morning in early summer,
at its perfect imperial distance–
and have you ever felt for anything
such wild love–
do you think there is anywhere, in any language,
a word billowing enough
for the pleasure

that fills you,
as the sun
reaches out,
as it warms you

as you stand there,
empty-handed–
or have you too
turned from this world–

or have you too
gone crazy
for power,
for things?
– Mary Oliver

Have you noticed the Brush-turkey’s nest across the road from the chalets?

It can be easily spotted, due to its large size, and taken for a bush gardener’s compost heap when unattended. It is the male that looks after the nest after the female has laid the eggs. Males build their nest with plant litter and soil and make sure it keeps a constant temperature of 33 degrees, by adding or removing material. If the females are happy about the maintenance of the nest, they will come to mate and lay eggs. Up to 24 eggs can be found buried in a mound to a 50cm depth. The male will watch them and keep the predators at bay until they hatch about 50 days later. Brush-turkeys owe their family name of megapodes to their particular mound built nests and are one of these only 3 species in Australia, the other 2 being the malleefowl and the orange-footed scrubfowl.
