Dear members of the RACT Family,

It is with regret that I inform you of the passing of Rod Howarth (RMC Class of 1971 and OC 18 TPT SQN in 1981-82) who passed away peacefully without pain on Saturday morning 2 Apr 16 with Elizabeth by his side.

Rod told a mate he was grateful for all the messages and emails that he had received and felt a bit overwhelmed by it all; it is a measure of the man that he felt humbled and surprised by all the positive messages of support.

The funeral for Rod will be held this Friday 8 Apr at 1000 hrs at St Peters Anglican Church, 331 Old South Head Road, Watsons Bay and afterwards at Watsons Bay Hotel; medals to be worn.

Matthew spent his career in 1 Tpt Sqn before moving onto heavy vehicles and to 85 Tpt Tp where he gathered a reputation of technical excellence and passion for the heavy vehicle trade. Lisa and family invite you to join us in farewelling Matt at a service to be held in the Centenary Memorial Gardens, Wacol Station Road, Brisbane on Thurs 24 Sept 15. It is with regret that I inform you of the passing of Craig (Fruit Box) Allen. Craig enlisted as a reserve on the 9th April 2002 and was posted to 25/49 RQR in Toowoomba. On the 16th June 2003, Craig transferred to the ARA and was posted to 1 TPT SQN, 1 CSSB and allocated to 2 platoon where he was given the nickname Fruit box. As a side note, he was given this nickname as the unit already had a member whose nickname was lunch box and Craig was just a smaller version of this member.

Craig stayed at 1 CSSB for his entire Army career and although he never deployed overseas he was well known right across 1 Bde for his CAT and Merlo operating skills. On the 24th February 2007, Craig separated from the Army and commenced a new chapter in his life at Tangalooma Resort.

Craig was first diagnosed with a brain Tumour in 2009 and over the past 6 years had battled 5 tumours, the last of which was diagnosed earlier this year. Unfortunately the last one was inoperable and untreatable.

He passed away on Saturday evening and is survived by his Parents Stan and Sharon Allen, brother Warren, and Sister-in-law Lisa.

His funeral will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday 19th August 2015 at Centenary Memorial Gardens Crematorium, 353 Wacol Station Rd, Sumner, QLD. Funeral Director: Tony Hollands Funerals, Ph (07) 3272 9011
