Cherry Venture was a 1600-ton cargo ship originating from Scandinavia, later registered in Singapore and owned by Sea Tankers Pty Ltd. On July 8, 1973, she ran aground on Teewah Beach, Queensland, Australia, during a fierce storm with cyclonic winds and 12-meter swells, leading to her being beached. Despite multiple salvage attempts over the years, including plans to convert her into a floating casino, the vessel could not be refloated and remained a significant tourist attraction for 34 years before being removed in 2007 due to safety concerns.

Specifications: Cherry Venture was 91.4 meters long, had a gross register tonnage (GRT) of 1745, and was powered by a 2450 IHP diesel engine. During her final voyage, she was unladen, which contributed to her grounding as she sat high in the water, making it difficult to withstand the stormy conditions.

This vessel’s story remains an intriguing part of maritime history and a notable example of the dangers faced by ships navigating treacherous coastlines.
