⚠️ PREPARE NOW – Rainbow Beach, Tin Can Bay, Cooloola Coast – Tropical cyclone as at 3:00pm, 1 March, 2025
Warning level: ADVICE
Warning area: Places between Inskip Point and Cooloola Coast
This warning is from Gympie Regional Council.
Tropical Cyclone Alfred is currently a category 3 storm moving south off the Queensland coast. The cyclone is generating large and powerful easterly waves.
While Alfred is expected to stay offshore, it could bring:
🟡 Abnormally high tides
🟡 Severe beach erosion along the southern Queensland coast
🟡 Hazardous surf conditions
What You Can Expect:
• Strong wind gusts
• Dangerous beach conditions with extreme waves
• Coastal erosion risk due to abnormally high tides
What You Can Do:
• Prepare your home
• Park cars undercover and away from trees
• Secure loose outdoor items (furniture, gas bottles, play equipment)
• Trim overhanging tree branches if safe to do so
• Check or make an emergency kit
If you're near the beach or waterways:
• Avoid the coastline during high tides and rough surf
If you're a visitor, camper, or caravanner:
• Leave K’gari, Inskip, and Cooloola while it is safe to do so
• Secure or pack up tents and loose items
• Ask accommodation staff about emergency plans
If you have a boat or jet ski:
• Move boats, jet skis, kayaks onto land if possible
• Secure vessels in safe moorings or marinas
