This Tudor style house is located on Raymond Island, 6km's from the Paynesville township on 10 acres of bushland with tall trees in a parklike setting. Secluded off a beautiful long winding driveway, the house with it's two built in 2 storey cottages is but a few metres from the water's edge, has a safe sandy beach which stretches for miles on this side of the island. Each cottage accommodates 4 p

eople. This area in Gippsland is well known for its mild climate in winter, and cooling sea breezes in the hot summertime. It is surely one of the finest inland lake locations in Victoria, indeed Australia. It offers great variety such as swimming, bushwalking, sailing, boating, fishing, bowling and golf. The prawns run right out the front in summer and the owners have available sea kayaks to explore the lakes system. We offer truly peaceful, exclusive and tranquil surroundings in which to relax and be close to unspoiled nature. Resident on this property are koalas, echidnas, two tawny frog mouth owls, sea eagles and kangaroos and their babies. The name of the property is a tribute to all the birdlife including black swans, pelicans, albatrosses, spoonbills, ibises, caspian terns, crimson and eastern rosellas, swift parrots, blue wrens, flame robins, azure kingfishers and many more. Add yoga classes, mediation and nutrition assessments for those wanting to add wellness to their holiday. Weekly yoga including chair yoga are held at Paynesvillle RSL. Vehicular ferry from Paynesville costs $13 return trip. Bicycles and pedestrians are free. THIS IS A NON-SMOKING PROPERTY. RAYMOND ISLAND IS A NATURE RESERVE AND AS SUCH WE DO NOT CATER FOR DOGS AND CATS.

🦅🦅🦅🦅 Over summer, BirdLife Australia and Birdlife East Gippsland went out in the field and carried out 44 inspections of 29 sea eagle nests. The majority of nests were closely associated with the Gippsland Lakes with a few sites identified as far east as Mallacoota.

This summer’s census was the first in a two-year monitoring project of the birds across their breeding season. Results will inform the next installment of population surveys in the Gippsland Lakes completed every ten years that date back to 1978.

“Nests were carefully selected based on previous records and supported by local knowledge,” said Dr Bradley Clarke-Wood, Wetland Bird Program Coordinator for BirdLife Australia, who is implementing the surveys.

“Through this amazing effort, 12 nests were found to be active with adults displaying behaviour that suggests they are breeding – including nest construction and pairing up or with chicks being seen or heard at the nests.”

By December 2023, 16 of the chicks observed had reached a sufficient size to fly and leave the nest – what is known in the bird world as fledging. A great success!
