Thank you Stacey’s Ghost Paranormal Tours for your appreciation post. We Appreciation you too Stacey for without you the ghost tours at the Hobart Penitentiary would not be possible. She works really hard to make sure her tours are the best they can be. She is always willing to come up with new ideas to get the ghosts tours and The Hobart Penitentiary out there. She also donates her time to help a good cause whether it’s helping me at Oak Lodge, Richmond with ghost and Paranormal tours or helping to preserve these beautiful buildings for generations to come. So once again thank you Stacey for your hard work. We really appreciate you 👻👻

ON THIS DAY: On June 4, 1937, Ardmore native Sylvan Goldman invented the shopping cart for the Humpty Dumpty grocery store chain, which he owned.

His invention didn't catch on right away. Men found the carts effeminate and women found them similar to a baby carriage.

Eventually, with the help of models and marketing, the shopping carts took off and Goldman became a multimillionaire.

WAR MEMORIALS OF TASMANIA…
By Michelle Austen

After World War One War Memorials were built all over Australia to honour our fallen soldiers Tasmania is no exception. Communities banded together to raise funds for their War Memorials. Tasmania has some rather amazing Memorials that popped up all over Tasmania. Some communities ran completions for the best memorial design. Here are some of the fine War Memorials unveiled in Tasmania after World War One.

Lest We Forget.

Fredrick Henry Thompson
Last Man Hanged in Tasmania
14th February 1946…
By Michelle Austen

Today marks 78 years since the last man was hanged in Tasmania.
Fredrick Henry Thompson murdered poor 8-year-old Evelyn Maughan. Evelyn left her home at 100 Goulburn Street Hobart on July 8th, 1945. She was heading to meet friends at St Joseph’s church but sadly never made it. Her body was found on October 5th, 1945, in the Queenborough Cemetery. Suspicions pointed straight to Fredrick Thompson who was seen by witnesses carrying a bath on his shoulders and later a child’s stroller in Hobart then he was seen again in Nelson Road, near the Queenborough cemetery.

Fredrick was arrested for murder and appeared in the Supreme Court on December 11th, 1945, he was found guilty of murdering Evelyn Maughan and sentenced to death. Fredrick Henry Thompson was hanged on Thursday, February 14th, 1946, at The Hobart Gaol in Campbell Street Hobart.
