Yesterday the staff and volunteers at the Robe Library & Visitor Info Centre headed out on a Mini Famil.

We started with a beverage and treat from Mahalia Coffee. Their Robe Store is honestly like an Aladdin’s Cave and of course I came home with another new pottery mug but could have snaffled much much more. Thankyou Mahalia.

Our major destination was the Duckaroo Wildlife Rescue Centre on Bog Lane. Narelle is a native animal saviour and we were treated to a hands on up close and personal experience with baby wombats and roos, and were able to pat possums, sugar gliders and a tawny frogmouth. We checked out owls, teenage roos and wallabies and even wallaroos.

In SA you need a permit to keep a lot of our native animals and many can never be released. Duckaroo is a haven for orphans from road accidents, with many midnight calls and drop offs.

We were happy to leave a donation to go towards their animal food bill which is the norm. You can visit Duckaroo by appointment and it all helps the Wildlife Rescue keep the animal care going.

Back to Robe for a bit of accommodation exploring. We were guests of Nada and Matthew from Robe Central Motel, recently new managers, where we were showed a wide range of rooms which were fresh and absolutely neat as a pin.

Next across the road to the Robe Hotel where we checked out their balcony ensuite rooms with the best ocean view.

Down the street to Sicurio, the ex-Bank SA office which has been renovated exquisitiely and has the only roof top balcony I know of in Robe. It belongs to the Happyshack portfolio and Manager Deb Mackey gave us insight into their boutique holdings.

Tourism Business in Robe does constantly change and evolve, and keeping up to date is what we need to do.

Did I tell you I cuddled a baby wombat!!!

South Australian tourism operators, do you have a unique winter offering that you want featured on southaustralia.com?

It's not too late to submit your wintery experiences and offers to your Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) listing to be featured on the deals & offers page being promoted to key local and national markets as part of our ‘Winter. Our Way.’ campaign.

This is a way to showcase experiences that you can only offer in the cooler months – think wintery events, cold-climate produce, winter wildlife encounters, and cosy accommodation features.

To find out more about how to leverage our domestic marketing campaign which runs until the end of August and how to submit, head to https://tourism.sa.gov.au/support/campaigns/travel-our-way

We continue on with our Staff & Volunteer Snapshot and this time we have Mary Weir, a valuable volunteer.

Your Name: Mary

What is your role at the Robe Library & Visitor Information Centre? Volunteer.

What do you like about your job? Communicating with all and the fun & laughs. Listening to folk come in and comment about our library/info centre and how lovely it all is. Lonny and the staff do an amazing job.

What don’t you like about your job? Nothing!

What do you like about Robe? Just an excellent little town to be involved in.

What would you like to see happen at the Robe Library & VIC? As far as I can see, what is being done here is excellent. School involvement, town involvement and so much information for tourists.

What would you like to see happen for tourism in Robe? The entrance to Robe is a concern for me. Personally I think it makes a bad impression as you drive into town from Kingston. And it worries me that there are so many businesses empty.

Name something about yourself that not too many people would know? My mother almost had me convinced I was special and to my horror I found out I wasn't!!!

What footy team do you barrack for? West Coast Eagles

And finally….what would you do if you found a penguin in the freezer….. Cook it..

Jeepers Mares, we think your Mum was definitely on the money....you are an absolute cracker and great company to be around. We love having you as a volunteer at the Robe Library & VIC.
