OPAL EVOLUTION, a unique grassroots community art and culture initiative in Andamooka, South Australia, is not just another event. Conceived by local artist Leila Day and developed in partnership with OSCA and Artistic Director Paul Gazzola, it offers an annual series of creative workshops and a yearly festival event that delve into the unique opal fields, the town's history, opalised fossils, ecological formations, and its rich palaeontological connections from the time it was the inland Eromanga Sea over 100 million years ago.

Opal Evolution seeks to reignite and strengthen the bonds between people through a common purpose by promoting cross-community collaboration and fostering artistic, cultural, and social engagement. It aims to become a significant and ongoing opportunity for the far north communities of SA.

The first Opal Evolution Festival, scheduled for October 4th to 6th, 2024, is just the beginning. With plans to grow in size and scale, Opal Evolution aims to become a nationally recognised community arts festival by 2027, when Andamooka hosts the Australian Opal Symposium.

Come along and take part in this new and exciting regional festival of light, projection, visual art and community parades that brings outstanding local and regional SA artists and community together.
