What is the project doing? The East Coast of Tasmania is a special place, beloved not only by those who live and work here but also by visitors from within Australia and around the world. We want to learn more about what ma

kes this region so special - what places along the East Coast are most important? What values make these places important to people who live and work here? We have developed a survey to answer these very questions. With your help, we can map important places in the east coast and understand what place values need to be protected and how to go about doing it. Why map these places? Places hold certain values and characteristics that make them special or important to us. For instance, a place can be valuable to us for camping or hiking, for swimming, for walking our dogs, for recreational fishing, for picnicking or spending time with friends and family. It can have characteristics that makes it valuable for our work, for example great views for tourism, fertile land for farming, abundant fishes for commercial fisheries. The problem is, these place values are not permanent and can change or be lost over time due to a number of reasons including changing environmental conditions, pollution or over-use. We want to map these important places and the values they hold to you so that we can know what places are special to the East Coast and why, and help inform work that may maintain and protect these values. What do you need to do? Our survey asks you to answer a few questions about yourself and your perspectives and preferences, and identify the places you value and the places you think are being lost or changed. Identifying places is easy! We have provided a digital map of the East Coast, all you need to do is 'pin' locations on the map as you would when using google maps. We have included detailed instructions, including an instructional video to help you with mapping. This can be accessed by clicking 'help' when you get to the mapping section of the survey. The information you provide by responding to the survey will be incredibly valuable in planning for the future of the East Coast. The survey will take approximately 60 MINUTES to complete. We truly appreciate your time and information. We will be giving everyone who completes the survey a $10 e-gift voucher as a thank you. This voucher is redeemable online or in-store at a wide range of stores and brands! Your participation is entirely voluntary and the answers you provide will be confidential. You will find detailed information about data privacy and how we will be using the information you provide in our participant information sheet. This is will be available for you to read and download when you follow the link to the survey website. Who can take part? This survey is open to all individuals 18 years and older who are residents of the Glamorgan-Spring Bay and Break O'Day regions of Tasmania. In addition to current residents of these regions, those individuals who own a shack, work at and / or run a business located in these regions, are also encouraged to take part!
