Have you heard of Oz Harvest? It's this fabulous, not for profit organization that is trying to reduce - & utilize - the huge amount of food that gets wasted every year in Australia. (Did you know that Aussies throw out up to 40% of the groceries they buy each week??)
Rather than just trashing perfectly good food from restaurants, supermarkets, shops, primary producers, etc, Oz Harvest has set up ingenious systems to collect & distribute the food to hungry Aussies while it's still fresh & nutritious! Sounds pretty sensible to me!
I've just signed a petition on Oz Harvest's behalf which sends a clear message to Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek and the federal government telling them that we need action NOW to reduce the food waste in Australia.
