Berrara Creek to Monument Beach walk, a great walk that combines the bush and beach and right on our doorstep.

Monument Beach is named after the monument behind the beach (second picture) dedicated to the lives lost in the shipwreck of The Walter Hood in 1870.

We had the most lovely guests stay this weekend, it was so nice to walk in and find a beautiful note in our guest book and this gorgeous hand made little plaque with Scribbly Gums on it 🥹 Love it! Thank you you Anna and family if you see this 🧡

These beautiful Scribbly Gums shelter the western side of our house and are our favourite section of the garden. I found a cute little poem recently by a poet called Douglas Stewart about Scribbly Gums and I really like this theory about where the patterns come from…am sharing below 🧡

Scribbly Gum by Douglas Stewart

A child might think
The fairies have come
And scribbled in play
On the scribbly gum

But we say, no;
Burrowing and biting
It’s some small insect
Has done this writing

And yet as though
Wild honey dripped
Down the white tree
To shape the script,

The creature makes
Such clear gold words
Of rock and bush
And leaves and birds

And its own strange life
As it writes on bark
Like poetry dancing
Out of the dark,

Perhaps after all
The thick white wood
Does hide a fairy
Or just as good

Take a stroll down to Island Sushi for lunch during your next stay - open Thursday to Sunday 11am to 2pm, their poke bowls are delicious! Located opposite Swan Lake, enjoy a bowl with a view in the shade of the gum trees.

Kitchen details…hands for handles to open our little walk in pantry where there’s lots of room to store local produce. Be sure to check out Sussex Greenhouse on your drive in along Sussex Inlet Rd open Wed-Sun 10am-4pm as well as the strawberry farm, open whenever the sign is out.
