Sharing a weather update at 4:30 on Thursday, 25/1. All is well here at The Point Whitsundays. Though it was a little windier earlier, it was nothing of concern or post-worthy.
Enjoying blue skies, a gentle breeze, birds debriefing, and our orchard benefiting from a welcomed sprinkle of rain - a true blessing in this dry Whitsundays summer.
Thoughts to the people and animals in the path of the cyclone in Townsville, may they be safe and sheltered. 🌺🌈

Good morning! We’ve received a few lovely messages expressing concern about the weather, so we thought we’d give you the lowdown.

There’s a potential Category 2 cyclone gearing up a couple of hundred kilometres north of us. Nothing too intense, but we might experience some gale force winds overnight and for a few hours tomorrow, and bringing us some much-needed rain as we’ve had a dry wet season so far.

Weather surprises are a very uncommon event in the Whitsundays. Our corner of paradise is more accustomed to doling out sunny days, gentle breezes, and breathtaking views.

The last dance with a cyclone - or any weather of note for that matter - was quite a while back during Cyclone Debbie in 2017, and this one’s forecast is a far cry from that direct hit.

Current forecast for here is for a brief, but blustery, affair.

We’ve got everything packed away and the shutters will be down so we’re not expecting any dramas.

Heartfelt thanks for your kind messages. It’s these connections that make our little spot in the Whitsundays feel like a true community.

We’ll keep you posted with updates as the weather unfolds, but looks like no need to worry.

Last week, a mum humpback whale led her newborn calf into Shute Harbour, where they took a few hours to rest near our property, The Point Whitsundays.
If you turn the sound up you can hear them breathing - quite incredible to hear baby whale breath from your own living room!
That is the magic of Shute Harbour, just short distance from the vibrant destination of Airlie Beach!

Fun fact: Humpback whales are the most frequently observed whale species in our area, June to Sep. Many of them choose to give birth right near Shute Harbour.
