📸 A snapshot from today’s Expat Career Management workshop in Singapore!
Whilst so many of the stats and findings from our recent report can feel a little confronting to read, we also know that those that invest in a career plan and their networks are more likely to transition faster and at the right level. Seeing today's group of Aussie expats - who are at the top of their game - come together ready to dig deep on defining their transition plan was encouraging. Knowing they are not alone in how they are feeling was equally powerful.
As always, participants were generous in sharing their stories, networks and insights gathered through their own engagement with the Australian market (including what recruiters and sectors are embracing international experiences).
Thank you to everyone who joined us today— we know the steps you are taking to plan will contribute positively to your expat-repat journey!

‘I was pretty proactive because I knew it was going to be pretty difficult’ is how our latest podcast guest describes his approach to the job market.
Adam Ford was coming home to Australia with a North American finance career but what he really wanted was a role in the for-purpose sector. To achieve this, he knew he had to convince a parochial hiring market NOT to put him in the finance box.
Fast forward a few short years and Adam has successfully swapped boxes.
He is living proof that you can ‘box swap’, but as our conversation demonstrates, you need to get creative, make some strategic steps that might look like sideways before they look upwards, and leave your ego at the door.

Calling all Aussie expats living overseas or recently returned -our Australian Expat Careers Survey is now open!
We first ran the survey in 2022 with 450 Australian expats from more than 50 countries telling us their views on the role job and career plays and has played in the repatriation experience.
We learned how long people spent planning their move, what the biggest challenges were and for those who came home without a job, how fast it took to get one.
Our 2024 survey will tell us what has changed for Australian expats in the job market – and maybe what hasn’t! We also have a few new questions to ask about the role a partner's career plays and if and how returned Aussies are leveraging their international experience.
If you are an Aussie living and working offshore, or returned in the last three years, you can share your thoughts here: https://lnkd.in/gPPF_gRF
And once you've had your say, please share it with your expat partners and mates!

“ You have to give things a go. They may not always make sense, but reconnect with that open-mindedness that you went overseas with because opportunities will present themselves. “
