Blue Mountains and Nepean Herb Lovers

Blue Mountains and Nepean Herb Lovers Friends through Gardening. The Blue Mountain and Nepean Herb Group met together for 35 years. We had work shops and also eating the herbs we cooked.

Unfortunately, the group has now disbanded but this page is run by old members keeping herb knowledge alive for our community. The Blue Mountains and Nepean Herb Group ran from 1987 till 2022, in-person gatherings, herbal lectures, guest speakers, and excursions were all enjoyed by members.

Foxgloves was originally called Folks gloves after the fairies. Other names include Witches' Gloves. Dead Men's Bells (alluding to its poisonous nature). Fairy's Glove. Gloves of Our Lady. Bloody Fingers (no offence meant to people who can't stand the sight of blood). Virgin's Glove. Fairy Caps. Folk's Glove. Fairy Thimbles. The spots on the flowers were believed to be the fingermarks left by the elves and fairies.
