Recent gem hunting adventure with Myles and Caitlyn from Western Australia who did a gem hunting tour,,, way back in the olden days. Well they they certainly had luck on their side back then with a cracking 6 crt clear, light blue sapphire hitting the Tupperware on the last trip. (Check out the finished product in the pics) And this time they actually won a competition for a holiday to Tasmania by purchasing a pair of work boots and decided to continue their luck and try and find another big blue sapphire to make a matching pair. Well although they didn't get the matching pair, they made up for it with some terrific topaz, zircons and a bunch of small clear sapphires.

Recent day out gem hunting with Steven, Shaan, Bailey & Mickenzie. These travelling wilburies are climate refugees from Darwin, looking for the promised lands, free from oppressive heat and death logs. (I warned them to stay clear of the upper Scamander Rd boat ramp). Steven mentioned he was an electrician, so I new I was in for a big day as they are notoriously lazy and known for their tardiness. And my concerns were immediately confirmed when he mumbled he "had a bit of a bad back" as he sat on a rock, immediately on arrival to the location. Right at the end of the gem hunt,,, just as I got the phone out,,, Dad jumped up and grabbed a couple of empty buckets and walked around with em for 5 minutes,,, but he wasn't fooling no one.
However, Mum, Shaan, and the little gem grabbers, Bailey and Mickenzie immediately jumped into action and got straight to work, which made it clear that they were used to Dad's shenanigans.
Then the rocks went "PING" and the shovels went "TING" as the three amigos punched the buckets of gravel through the sieves at record pace, ignororing the bleeding fingers, broken nails and wet sox,,, producing a nice little parcel of lava lollies, including a WHOPPING 12 .5 crt blue star sapphire.
And at the end of the day as the kids helped Dad back to the car, mum was on the phone googling "realestate St Helens " and "best beach in the world " adding to the growing population and giving the bored Facebook Ken's and Karen's something else to whing and whine about. (Apologies to people called Ken and Karen).
