The Body & Soul Party, created by the visionary trio Joe Claussell, François K, and Danny Krivit, stands as a timeless beacon in the world of dance music culture. Born in New York City in 1996, this legendary Sunday afternoon party was more than just a dance event; it was a celebration of unity, creativity, and soulful expression. Joe Claussell, renowned for his spiritual and globally-inspired soundscapes, brought a deeply emotive and eclectic approach to the decks. François K, a pioneer of dub-influenced remixes and an original Studio 54 DJ, infused the event with technical mastery and a genre-defying ethos. Danny Krivit, a master editor and selector with roots in the disco and funk scenes, contributed a profound sense of history and groove. Together, they crafted a musical journey that seamlessly blended house, disco, funk, soul, Afrobeat, and more, creating an unparalleled vibe that attracted dancers and music lovers from all walks of life.

The magic of Body & Soul lies not only in its diverse and dynamic sound but also in its emphasis on community and inclusivity. Held at Club Vinyl and later other iconic venues, the party created a safe space where people of all backgrounds could come together to celebrate life through music and movement. The trio’s collective ability to read the room and deliver emotionally resonant sets made Body & Soul a spiritual experience for many. Over the years, its legacy has expanded globally, with special events and festivals spreading the ethos of soulful, genre-blurring dance music. Even decades later, Body & Soul remains a cornerstone of dance music culture, a testament to the enduring power of connection and artistry.

Larry Levan was a groundbreaking DJ, producer, and visionary who revolutionized the art of DJing and forever changed the landscape of dance music. As the legendary resident DJ of New York City’s Paradise Garage, Levan transformed the nightclub into a sanctuary of sound, emotion, and unity. Known for his eclectic music selections, from disco and funk to rock and early house, Levan created immersive musical journeys that transcended genre and connected deeply with his audience. His sets were marked by an unparalleled ability to weave narrative and energy, often accompanied by theatrical lighting and effects, which gave rise to the term “Saturday Mass.” More than just a DJ, Levan was an artist who brought joy, love, and liberation to the dance floor, making the Paradise Garage a cornerstone of club culture and a birthplace of modern dance music.

Levan’s influence extended far beyond the walls of the Paradise Garage. He was instrumental in shaping the early house music movement and inspiring generations of DJs, producers, and music lovers worldwide. His remixing skills brought new life to songs like Gwen Guthrie’s Ain’t Nothin’ Goin’ On But the Rent and Taana Gardner’s Heartbeat, solidifying his legacy as a sonic innovator. Larry Levan’s commitment to fostering a sense of community through music, particularly within LGBTQ+ and marginalized communities, continues to resonate today.
