The Treasurer and the Minister announced this week that the 6 month limitation on working for the same employer or organisation has been lifted for WHM also effective from 19 January 2022 until 31 December 2022.

WHM will not need to request permission to extend this employment.

WHM visa holders must meet Australia’s vaccination requirements or have an approved travel exemption.

The Prime Minister announced yesterday (13 January 2022) that on 12 January 2022, the Commonwealth lifted the 40-hour rule for student visa holders:

He announced that students will no longer have "hour restrictions on them".

This is is a temporary arrangement. It came into effect immediately on announcement on 19 January 2022. These arrangements will be reviewed by the Government in April 2022.

Students must maintain their course enrolment, attendance and satisfactory progress.

Pharmacists added to the Priority Skilled Migration Occupation List (PMSOL)

The following occupations have been added to the PMSOL:
- Hospital Pharmacist (251511)
- Retail Pharmacist (251513)
- Industrial Pharmacist (251512)

The Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs Alex Hawke MP made the announcement on 27 July 2021. “With thousands of community pharmacies across Australia being invited to join the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, it’s all hands to the pump as the COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues,” Minister Hawke said.

Priority visa processing is given to occupations on the PMSOL.

An update from the Department of Home Affairs and Australian Border Force regarding temporary relaxation of working hours for Students during the COVID 19 Pandemic...

The Department has advised that it will take a flexible approach to student visa holders, including those working beyond their usual work limitations, to support the supply of certain services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

WHO DOES THIS APPLY TO?

Students can work for MORE than 40 hours a fortnight if employed:
• By an aged care Approved Provider or Commonwealth-funded
aged care service provider with a RACS ID or a NAPS ID, before 8
September 2020;
• By a registered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
provider before 23 April 2020 enrolled in a health care related
course and you are supporting the health effort against COVID-
19, as directed by health officials;
• In the agriculture sector;
• In the tourism and hospitality sector;
• In a supermarket, or associated distribution facility, located in an
area impacted by COVID-19 lockdown restrictions for the duration
of the lockdown.

These are temporary measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, and will be reviewed by the Government.

Student visa holders who cancel their enrolment and stop attending classes, or fail to meet satisfactory course progress, may be in breach of their visa conditions.

Great outcome for a travel exemption!

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) is increasing their visa appliation and citizenship application fees on 1 July 2021.

They have said that "𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨".

Temporary visa holders will now be able to access the Subclass 408 COVID-19 Pandemic Event Visa for a period of 12 months if they work in the tourism and hospitality sector.

This decision adds tourism and hospitality to the critical sectors of agriculture, food processing, health care, aged care, disability care and child care for eligibility for this visa subclass.
