Claude Monet, The Pyramids at Port-Coton, Sun Effect, 1886.

In 1886, Claude Monet famously captured the dramatic beauty of the Aiguilles de Port Coton, producing works that remain iconic representations of Belle-Île’s rugged seascapes. Monet painted a lot, every single day, regardless of weather.

The Pyramids at Port-Coton is a series of six paintings produced by Claude Monet in 1886. They all show the rocky Atlantic coast of Belle-Île-en-Mer, visited and painted in the plein air by the artist.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh was a Scottish architect, designer, water colourist and artist. Born in Glasgow in 1868, he lived most of his life there, working alongside his wife Margaret Macdonald whom he met at the Glasgow School of Art. He is among the most important figures of Modern Style (British Art Nouveau style). Counted as a pioneer of modernism, his work always retained a decorative sensibility and featured ornament. Mackintosh took his inspiration from his Scottish upbringing and blended them with the flourish of Art Nouveau and the simplicity of Japanese forms.
