UNESCO-listed Seonamsa Temple is a serene sanctuary nestled within a lush forest on the foothills of Jogyesan Mountain in South Korea. Home to many pristine treasures and artifacts, this Korean Buddhist temple preserves traditional temple culture.
Before you reach the temple grounds, two rainbow-shaped bridges appear; the second-larger being Seungseong Bridge, with Gangseon Pavilion peeking through the arc. Built in the Joseon era, Seungseongyo is considered to be amongst the most beautiful of the old stone bridges in Korea.
The protruding sculpture of a dragon’s head below the centre of the bridge, facing upstream, is intended to ward off evil spirits.

One of the most mesmerising sites in Gyeongju, South Korea’s ancient capital, is the historic remains of Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, formerly known as Anapji. It was part of the palace complex of ancient Silla created during the reign of King Munmu in the 7th century and has since been a symbol of artistic and architectural excellence.
Although the palace no longer stands, the restored complex gives a hint of the majesty and grandeur of Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond during the Silla period. The intricately decorated pagodas overlook a serene pond. During the excavation of Wolji Pond many artifacts were recovered – some thirty-three thousand pieces comprising of uniquely designed roof tiles, pottery, gilt bronze Buddhist statues and jewellery.
The ancient and original name of Wolji translates to ‘water that reflects the moon’. It is upon twilight when the pavilions and pond are lit that the illuminated pagodas dance above reflected in the waters, providing the perfect spot for quiet contemplation.
