Today's question is about boots and why you should wear them.
Motorcyclists should wear boots designed specifically for riding, offering the best combination of protection, durability, and comfort. Here’s a breakdown of what to look for in motorcycle boots:
1. Protection
Reinforced Toes and Heels: Protect against impacts and provide structure.
Ankle Support and Protection: Look for internal or external armor to safeguard your ankles.
Shin Protection: For full coverage, especially in sport or adventure boots.
Abrasion Resistance: High-quality leather or synthetic materials (like Kevlar or Cordura) can prevent injuries during a slide.
Impact Protection: CE-certified boots have passed safety standards, ensuring they can withstand certain impacts.
2. Sole Design
Oil-Resistant, Non-Slip Soles: To provide grip on slippery or uneven surfaces.
Stiffness: A solid sole protects your feet and reduces long-ride fatigue.
Shifter Pad: Reinforced areas where your boot contacts the gear shifter.
3. Fit and Comfort
Secure Closure System: Buckles, zippers, or laces with Velcro ensure the boots stay on during an accident.
Breathability: Ventilation or moisture-wicking liners to keep your feet comfortable in hot or wet conditions.
Flexibility: Comfortable enough to walk in but rigid enough to protect.
4. Style for Your Riding Type
Touring Boots: Waterproof, all-day comfort for long-distance riders.
Adventure/Dual-Sport Boots: Extra protection and durability for mixed on-road/off-road use.
Sport/Racing Boots: Designed for high-speed safety with reinforced sliders and maximum protection.
Cruiser Boots: Stylish, often made of leather, but still offer protection and durability.
Off-Road/MX Boots: These boots offer high protection, especially for ankles, shins, and calves, and they are designed for rugged terrain.
5. Weather Resistance
Waterproofing: Consider boots with Gore-Tex or similar membranes for wet conditions.
Insulation: If riding in colder climates, insulated boots can help.
Ventilation: For hot weather, perforated leather or vented boots work best.
6. Additional Tips
Avoid regular hiking boots or fashion boots; they don't offer enough protection.
Ensure they fit snugly but aren't too tight. Properly fitted boots improve control and safety.
So remember to wear proper footwear when riding.
Boots should go above the ankle to provide full protection.
Investing in quality motorcycle boots can make a big difference in your safety and comfort on the road. What’s your go-to riding boot style?

With Summer comes the joy of being outside on a motorcycle with longer days to ride.

Riding a motorcycle in summer can be challenging when balancing safety and staying cool, but wearing the correct protective clothing is essential. Here’s a breakdown of summer-appropriate motorcycle gear:

Helmet: Always wear a full-face helmet that meets safety standards. You can opt for a helmet with excellent ventilation and a sun visor or tinted shield to protect against glare.

Jacket: Choose a lightweight, breathable motorcycle jacket made from mesh or perforated textile. Many summer jackets include armour at the shoulders, elbows, and back, ensuring protection while allowing airflow.

Gloves: Summer gloves should be ventilated but offer abrasion resistance and armour on knuckles and palms. Look for materials like perforated leather or mesh with reinforced padding.

Pants: Wear protective pants designed for riding, such as mesh or Kevlar-reinforced denim. They should fit comfortably while offering armour at the knees and hips.

Boots: Ankle-high or taller riding boots made from lightweight, breathable materials are ideal. They should protect your toes, heels, and ankles while preventing overheating.

Base Layers: Moisture-wicking base layers under your gear helps keep you cool and reduce chafing. These layers pull sweat away from your skin, improving comfort during hot rides.

Extras: For added sun protection, remember a neck gaiter or bandana, and consider using cooling vests or inserts on particularly hot days.

Investing in summer-specific motorcycle gear ensures you stay safe without sacrificing comfort. Proper protection shields you from injuries and enhances your riding experience by keeping you cool and focused on the road.

I also take a rehydration pack on my rides.

Wednesday is when we look at motorcycle riding destinations. This week, we look at Central New South Wales, Australia, which is easily reached from Sydney.
A motorcycle tour of Central NSW is a fantastic way to explore the region's diverse landscapes, rich history, and charming towns. Here's how I’d plan a memorable trip:

1. Choose a Route
Start with a well-thought-out loop or out-and-back route covering highlights like Bathurst, Orange, Mudgee, Parkes, Dubbo, and the surrounding areas. Central NSW has excellent motorcycling roads featuring rolling hills, twisty sections, and scenic stretches.

2. Must-Visit Stops
Bathurst:
Mount Panorama: Ride the iconic racing circuit (open to public vehicles most days) and soak in the motorsport history.
Abercrombie House: Explore this heritage-listed mansion for a bit of culture.
Orange:
Food and Wine: Stop for a gourmet meal or wine tasting at one of Orange's renowned wineries.
Mount Canobolas: Take a detour to this extinct volcano for stunning views and a bit of adventure.
Mudgee:
Wineries and Breweries are perfect for a relaxed afternoon (park the bike for the night before sampling, of course!).
The Drip Gorge: Enjoy a short hike to this beautiful sandstone rock formation.
Parkes:
Parkes Radio Telescope (‘The Dish’): Visit this iconic site made famous by the movie The Dish.
Elvis Festival: If your trip aligns, don’t miss the annual Elvis Festival in January!
Dubbo:
Taronga Western Plains Zoo: A must-visit for animal lovers. They have a bike-friendly path around the zoo.
Old Dubbo Gaol: Dive into history at this well-preserved 19th-century gaol.
Cowra:
Japanese Garden and Cultural Centre: A serene stop for stunning gardens and history.
Cowra Breakout Site: Learn about WWII history at the site of the infamous POW escape.

3. Roads to Ride
Mid-Western Highway: Smooth and scenic, perfect for relaxed cruising.
Great Western Highway: Enjoy winding mountain roads as you head west from Sydney.
Golden Highway: Connects many towns with fantastic countryside views.
Burrendong Way: A quieter, scenic road between Orange and Wellington.

4. Experiences to Include
Bush Pubs: Central NSW has classic Aussie pubs where you can grab a meal, share a yarn, and enjoy a laid-back atmosphere.
Starry Nights: Camp or find accommodations where you can enjoy the clear night skies of regional NSW.
Farmland Scenery: Stop to take in the patchwork fields, rolling hills, and old windmills—a quintessential rural NSW vibe.

5. Practical Tips
Pack for All Weather: Central NSW can range from sunny and warm to unexpectedly cool, especially in the higher elevations.
Fuel Up: Some stretches between towns can be long, so plan fuel stops carefully.
Local Markets: Check out local farmer’s markets for fresh produce and handmade goods.
Stay Overnight: Towns like Mudgee, Orange, and Dubbo have great accommodations, from heritage hotels to boutique stays.
A Central NSW motorcycle tour is all about the journey, the people you meet, and the stories you'll gather along the way. Whether you're drawn to history, nature, or simply great roads, this region offers an unforgettable ride. Where would you want to start?

Tuesday is when we look for answers.

I have been riding and driving around and noticed many riders are not wearing gloves. This got me thinking about gloves.

Wearing motorcycle gloves is crucial for several reasons: they enhance safety, comfort, and overall control while riding. Here's why they matter:

1. Protection in Case of an Accident
Impact and abrasion resistance: When you fall, your hands instinctively hit the ground first. Gloves made of reinforced materials like leather, Kevlar, or hard armour protect your skin from severe abrasions and fractures.
Shock absorption: Many gloves have padding on the palms and knuckles, which helps reduce the impact of collisions.

2. Improved Grip and Control
Grip in all conditions: Gloves improve grip on the handlebars, especially in wet or sweaty conditions, thanks to friction-producing materials.
Vibration dampening: They reduce the fatigue caused by bike vibrations, ensuring better handling during long rides.

3. Weather Protection
Cold weather: In colder climates, gloves insulate your hands, keeping them warm and preventing numbness, which could compromise control.
Rain: Waterproof gloves protect your hands from becoming slippery and cold in the rain, maintaining safety and comfort.
Sun and heat: Gloves shield your skin from sunburn and blisters caused by prolonged exposure to the sun.

4. Enhanced Comfort
Gloves reduce the pressure and strain on your hands during extended rides, minimizing discomfort and fatigue.
They also prevent chafing and calluses caused by continuous contact with the grips.

5. Knuckle and Finger Protection
Many gloves include hard armour or padding over knuckles and fingers, guarding against flying debris like rocks, insects, or branches.

6. Style and Visibility
High-visibility gloves can make hand signals more noticeable to other drivers, enhancing safety on the road.
They also add a stylish element to your riding gear, letting you express your personality while staying safe.

Wearing gloves isn’t just about looking the part—it’s critical to staying safe and comfortable on every ride. Whether cruising on an extended tour or commuting, gloves should always be part of your gear.
