I want to let you know of some road closures in Blacktown City due to the heavy rain we've had:

🚙 Stony Creed Rd, Shanes Park
🚗 Grange Ave, Schofields at Richmond Rd and Bridge St ends
🚘 Carnarvon Rd, Schofields
🚖 Riverstone Rd near Clarke St, Riverstone

Plenty of roads remain slippery so please take it easy out there.

⚠️SEVERE WEATHER EXPECTED⚠️

With weather conditions expected to continue over the coming days, residents are encouraged to follow NSW SES Blacktown Unit and NSW SES Mount Druitt Unit to keep up to date with flood warnings and road closures.

⛈️ HEAVY TO INTENSE RAINFALL OVER WESTERN SYDNEY

⚠️ The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 11:50 am, a VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORM likely to produce heavy, locally intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding was detected near Parramatta, Richmond and Liverpool. This thunderstorm is moving towards the northeast.

Another severe thunderstorm likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near Brooklyn and Maroota. This thunderstorm is slow moving.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
🔸Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
🔸Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
🔸If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
🔸Unplug computers and appliances.
🔸Avoid using the phone during the storm.
🔸Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.

☎️ For EMERGENCY help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 12:55 pm.

Tickets to the annual Seniors Week Concert will be available for Blacktown residents from 8.30am on Tuesday 11 February.

The event will take place on Monday 24 March from 11am in Bowman Hall and includes the presentation of the 2025 Senior Citizen of the Year, lunch and entertainment featuring the Baby Boomers Live Comedy Tribute Show.

Chang Lai Yuan Chinese Gardens in Nurragingy Reserve will be adorned with colour as we prepare to ring in the Year of the Snake.

Decorated in the spirit of Lunar, the celebrations will feature a range of cultural activities and entertainment between 4 pm - 9 pm and conclude with a spectacular fireworks display including Chinese fire crackers.

Yesterday marked the first official day of National Extreme Heat Awareness Day.

Blacktown City Council kicked off the event with a Heatwave Awareness Panel, featuring speakers on urban heat, human and environmental health risks, and how to prepare for extreme heat events.

Over 40 people joined us in the conversation. A big thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this event a success.
