Day 5 - Uyuni Salt Flat tour, Day 3. Today was a 5am start, pretty chilly! We drove cross country to view some geysers, then made a trip across the Chile border to drop a few people there to end their tour with us. Then it was a beautiful drive through some wetlands with so many llamas, then another stunning area of rock formations before our journey back to Uyuni.

Day 3, Uyuni Salt Flats & Surrounds tour begins. We were so lucky to have a layer of water on the salt flats giving us the stunning reflections. We started at the Train graveyard, then drove across a small portion of the flats & it just went as far as the eye could see in every direction for a number of hours - just spectacular.

After a 28 hour travel day with 3 flights (Sydney to Santiago, Chile, the on to Lima, Peru & final destination La Paz, Bolivia) & 1 long layover in Lima, we made it to our La Paz hotel around 5:30am. Luckily we slept well on all flights & at Lima airport so we had a few hours sleep then went exploring. We were in La Paz 13 years ago & a few things have changed. There's more street art for one and, there is a new transport system, the "Mi Teleférico'
Mass transportation system. Its an above ground cable car, metro system. Its really amazing & a great way to minimise the impact of the high altitude by reducing our walking a little as we landed right in La Paz's 3,600 feet from sea level!
It was such a great way to get around the city, with awesome views.
Safe travels if you have trips planned.

Day 10, last day before we fly home tonight. We used the train & headed out to visit the Marakina Shoe Museum featuring former First Lady Imelda Marcos's shoe collection (749 pairs as of 2020). We then found our way to the ferry which cruised past the Malacañang Palace, the official residence and office of the president of the Philippines (no photos allowed).

Everywhere we went they had Christmas decorations up & were playing Christmas songs (so early!)
Now it's time to head home. We saw a lot in our 10 days with heaps more left to explore.

Day 9 we woke up with views of the Rice terraces in Batad from our guest house & then trekked out to where our jeepney met us. Then it was a short drive back to our main van & driver for the 9 hour drive back to Manila. Less traffick being Sunday but still busy as we reached the outskirts of the city, which goes on forever. Beautiful scenery along the way, plenty of rice fields, tropical vegetation and small towns.
