Ingenious Oz celebrate 11 years. Here are 3 things I've learned from the journey so far. LinkedIn prompted a work anniversary for me. Looking back it's been a wonderful inspiring journey.
In 2013 I headed off my motorcycle into regional and remote Australia to interview clever, ingenious Australians, people like you and I are doing amazing things. IOP has now become the research arm of my business.
Here's what I learned which now form the foundation of everything I do.
1. Innovation and success is a 'Game of Inches'
2. Successful people and organisations nurture a Growth Mindset
3. Be a 'Gap Hunter' not an 'Idea Hunter'
Before 'Ingenious' in 2005 I sold Absurd Entertainment and started Nigel Collin Creative, where I began my career speaking and facilitation. I tried to calculate how many events I have spoken at and it's difficult, but easily 2000 odd, all over the globe. Of value is what I learned during those 2000. I have sat in, listened to and helped facilitate countless strategy and business sessions. And I learned from each one. Again the same business truths emerge.
I am so grateful for everyone who supported me in the past and supports me now. Way too numerous to mention BUT you know who you are.

Planning has begun for the next Ingenious Oz Project trip to uncover grassroots innovation.
To go QLD-NT-SA-NSW or NSW-SA-VIC-NSW?

This is cool. This is the very room where the idea for ‘ingenious Oz Project’ came to me about 12 years ago
Australia is a very clever Nation. 5 years ago, this month, Bradley Foster and I headed off to discover stories of grassroots innovation making a difference. (part of Ingenious Oz Project, established in 2013). So we thought we'd relive the stories because the lessons they hold still pack a punch.
Btw. IOP will be on the road again in November through Western NSW with a focus on grassroots innovation for sustainability.
Our first stop in 2018 was @Earth Sanctuary World Nature Centre Watch the video for the full story.

The BIG Pivot Ep#11: Scene Change
The BIG Pivot Ep#11: Scene Change
What really is a 'pivot'? Bradley Foster and I spoke with Ian Whitworth of Scene Change who recently pivoted from being one of Australia's most successful AV companies to now providing virtual event studios around the country. A no-nonsense, No BS interview where we also discuss the truth about marketing, human connection and the future of futurists.

The BIG Pivot Ep#10: Fourth Wall
The BIG Pivot Ep#10: Fourth Wall
This is one of the most inspiring interviews to date. When Ingenious Oz Project interviewed Jeremy Garling Fourth Wall it became clear very quickly that mindset is everything. What's also apparent is how Fourth Wall have stuck to their ethos and values and COVID has presented, not so much a challenge, but an opportunity of finding new ways of doing things and what they are capable of achieving. An example being their new offering 'EVENT CAST' which keeps going from strength to strength. Ingenious.
The Big Pivot - Ep #6 - Husk Distillers
One of the first pivots when COVID hit was distillers making hand sanitiser. However, now restirctions are lifting what happens next? Do they keep making hand sanitiser or go back to regular business? What impact did the pivot have on their bottom line and more importantly on communities and social good? Does philanthropy and business make good sense?
We spoke with Harriet Messenger at Husk Distillers on the North Coast of NSW to find out

The BIG Pivot - How Harvest Newrybar is supporting local producers, the community and their business
Meet Blair Beattie, a regenerative farmer and co-founder of Harvest Newrybar who when COVID hit saw a gap, had a brilliant idea for the benefit of his business, local producer and his community. A cafe owner he wantded to find ways to help local producers sell their produce and local people have access to fresh, sustainable produce. The solution was Vegie Boxes and now that things are slowly opening back up, the idea is one that has sustainable legs (in every sense of the word). Brad and I spoke with Blair

Working within the Tourism and events sector Tom and Annabel Curtain found their business radically affected by COVID-19. However, by listening to their market, getting inquisitive, they found a way to tweak and pivot their business drawing on their core capabilities. In many ways, COVID provided an opportunity to try new things and act on ideas already in the background for them.
