Were the iconic Tangalooma Wrecks intentionally sunk by humans?

Yes! In the 1960s, recreational boat owners were in dire need of a secure anchorage on the eastern side of Moreton Bay. This prompted the Queensland Government to scuttle a cluster of 15 vessels over two decades, resulting in the emergence of the Tangalooma Wrecks.

Over time, these shipwrecks have become home to a variety of reef fish, coral formations and marine life, transforming them into a popular tourist and snorkelling attraction!
